Cavs Sweep Pair from Ravens

RADNOR, Pa. (Cabrini Field) – The Rosemont softball team gave up big innings in each of today's games in the doubleheader at Cabrini this afternoon, resulting in two losses for the Ravens. In the first game, the Ravens came up short 18-3, and they dropped the nightcap by a 15-5 score. Rosemont's overall record now stands at 3-10 (1-9 CSAC). The Cavaliers remain a half game out of first place in the CSAC, with a 7-1 conference record (9-13 overall).

Game 1 - Cabrini 18, Rosemont 3

Things looked positive for the Ravens opening up the game when Kaileigh Whalen tripled to right field to score Ke'alohilani Naone-Carter for the first run of the game in the top of the first. Cabrini retaliated with a four-spot in their half of the first, putting the Ravens behind by three. After a scoreless second frame from Rosemont, the Cavaliers put together a big 12-run inning to put the game out of reach. In the inning the home side used 12 hits and two Rosemont errors to plate the dozen runs.

The Cavs added a run in the third to make it 17-1, but Rosemont found some more offense in their half of the fourth inning. Charli Fillmore singled up the middle to start the rally, and Kaileigh Whalen hit her third round-tripper of the season to plate the two Ravens runs. Cabrini would tack on a solo run in the bottom of the fourth to end the scoring in the opener.

It was Rosemont with 3 runs, 3 hits, 3 errors, and 3 left. Cabrini scored 18 runs on 19 hits, 3 errors and 3 left.

Whalen garnered two of Rosemont's three hits (a triple and a home run) and knocked in all three Ravens runs. Charli Fillmore had Rosemont's other hit in the game. Fillmore took the loss for the Ravens. For Cabrini, Jess Giordano pitched the five innings to earn the win.

Game 2 - Cabrini 15, Rosemont 5

The Cavaliers virtually ended this game right out of the chute by putting 13 runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning to take a 13-0 lead. After a scoreless second inning for both teams, the Ravens showed some punch of their own in the top of the 3rd. Darby O'Rourke singled and advanced to second on a passed ball. After a Lohi Naone-Carter walk, Bailey Shulte laid down a bunt single to load the sacks. With one out, Kaileigh Whalen again came through in a big spot with a single to left center to score O'Rourke. Autumn Sharkey reached on a fielder's choice, but Naone-Carter was thrown out at the plate on the play for the 2nd out. Lena Buccigrossi singled through the left side to score Schulte for the Ravens' second run of the inning. Lora Zubrzycki singled up the middle to knock in Whalen for the 3rd run. The rally ended when all of the advanced on a Cabrini passed ball that allowed Sharkey to score.

Cabrini put another pair of runs up in the bottom of the fourth to make the score 13-4 in favor of the home side. The scoring ended in the top of the 5th inning after the Cavalier's third baseman was charged with an error, allowing Autumn Sharkey to cross the plate.

The Ravens had 5 runs on 7 hits, 1 error and 9 runners stranded. Cabrini scored 15 on 19 hits, 3 errors and 6 left on base.
