Women's soccer team turns on offense in shutout win over Wilson

At a point when their playoff fates were starting to get into a dicey situation, the Rosemont women's soccer team has started to put things all together at just the right time.
In a game dripping with post-season ramifications, the Ravens went on the road and exploded offensively as Maciana Mazzeo scored a hat trick while Lauren Lightcap, Madeline Polino and Avery Bramell each added a goal each in a 6-0 shutout win over Wilson College Wednesday in a Colonial States Athletic Conference contest in Chambersburg, PA.
The Ravens (3-9 overall, 2-3 CSAC) are now in 6th place, holding the final post-season spot in the CSAC Tournament with three conference games to go. Perhaps the best part for Rosemont is the fact that they are playing their best soccer of the season.
The Ravens got on the board early thanks to Mazzeo, who scored just six minutes in with a shot from outside the 18 yard line that beat goaltender Aubrey Runkle high. Lightcap then scored her first goal of the season at the 23rd minute with a shot that curved into the high left corner of the net.
Polino scored her third of the season with the same formula- a high shot that found its way inside the left corner from just inside the 18 to make it 3-0 at the 41st minute. Mazzeo capped off the scoring in the first half with her second goal of the afternoon with a dribble down the right side that beat Runkle to the left in the 42nd minute.
Mazzeo secured the hat trick and her ninth goal of the season- currently tied for sixth in the CSAC rankings- with a free kick goal from the top of the box at the 80th minute. Bramell would close out the scoring with an assist from Emily Johnston on a shot that hit the crossbar and bounced into the net.
Rosemont is now off until next Wednesday when they will travel to Baltimore to face Notre Dame.
