BALTIMORE - Three straight wins. Two straight shutouts. A clinched berth in the Colonial States Athletic Conference playoffs.
These have been 10 very good days for the Rosemont women's soccer program.
The Ravens punched their ticket to the post-season officially on Wednesday afternoon when
Madeline Polino and
Maciana Mazzeo scored back-to-back goals within 2 minutes and 21 seconds of each other, lifting Rosemont to a 2-0 win over the Gators in CSAC play in Baltimore.
With the victory, the Ravens (4-9, 3-3 CSAC) clinch a post-season spot in the six-team field for the conference tournament, which will begin play on Oct. 29. If the Ravens should win their final two games of the regular season- Saturday at home against Cedar Crest, Thursday at home against Bryn Athyn- Rosemont could over take Keystone for the fourth spot and earn a first-round home playoff game.
The game was scoreless until the middle of the second half when lightning seemed to strike quickly. First up was Polino, who scored her fourth goal of the year by finishing up a
Lauren Lightcap shot that had been saved by Gators goaltender Loren Pardoe for the game's first goal.
The second came when Mazzeo scored unassisted from just outside the left box with just over 10 minutes to play. The goal is Mazzeo's 10th of the season- sixth best in the CSAC- and sixth in the past three games of the winning streak.
Rosemont is back at the Complex on Saturday for a 12 noon start against the Falcons of Cedar Crest.
