LA PLUME, PA. - There are good nights, great nights and historic nights.
On the first night of the Colonial States Athletic Conference playoffs,Â
Maciana Mazzeo had a night for the ages.
The sophomore from Glassboro, NJ had a hand in every scoring tally that Rosemont had on Monday night, scoring four goals and adding two assists as the Ravens advanced to the CSACÂ semifinals with a 6-2 win over Keystone College in upstate Pennsylvania.
Rosemont (6-11, 5-4 CSAC) advances to Wednesday night's semifinals against Centenary, the top overall seed in the tournament. The Ravens and Cyclones played on Oct. 2 with Centenary earning a 4-0 win.
Mazzeo - who was named to the All-CSAC second team earlier on Monday- broke a school record for points in a game with her 10 point outing. The previous mark had been set by Lauren Whalen, who scored nine points in a win over Valley Forge Christian on Sept. 13, 2012. Mazzeo recorded the fourth four-goal game in school history on Monday night, joining a mark that was set by teammate
Madeline Polino, Whalen and herself last September against Notre Dame (Md.)
.The night didn't start out as promising for the Ravens when Giants defender Kristen Hlavaty scored two goals within the first 8:07 of the contest to give Keystone a 2-0 lead in a blink.Â
Things would turn around, however, when Giants goaltender Rebekah Shepard received a red card at the 36th minute for playing a ball outside the box with her hands. After that, things snowballed in the Ravens favor.
Rosemont would get back within a goal at the restart when Mazzeo would score on the free kick to cut the deficit to 2-1 before halftime.
The second half belonged to Rosemont. They outshot Keystone by an 11-3 margin in the final 45 minutes. Ten of the 11 shots ended up on goal. The attack kept right on pushing forward.
Mazzeo's second goal tied the game at 2 when she scored on a Polino corner kick at the 61st minute. Fifteen minutes later, Mazzeo would earn her third hat trick of the season and give Rosemont the lead when she scored off a throw-in from
Lauren Lightcap.Â
Polino would add an insurance goal in the 82nd minute when she converted on a pass from Mazzeo to make it 4-2. Lightcap would make it 5-2 just under 2 1/2 minutes later with her second goal of the season. Mazzeo would cap off the scoring at the 86th minute with her fourth goal of the year- this coming from outside the 18 yard line.
Emma Lindsay recorded five saves in the win for the Ravens, who advanced to the CSAC semifinals for the first time since 2013.
