Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | Kevin Cooney

Ravens fight through to beat Centenary in five sets

In the end, it was a little too close for comfort.

But for a Rosemont women's volleyball team in desperate need of some momentum as the season turns for the home stretch, the only thing that mattered was a victory.

After losing a 2-0 lead to get forced to a deciding set, the Ravens turned on the energy and earned a 15-9 victory in the deciding frame to take a 3-2 win over Centenary University Tuesday night in a Colonial States Athletic Conference contest at Alumnae Hall.

The win keeps the Ravens (5-13, 1-3 CSAC) in the hunt for the sixth and final playoff spot for the CSAC tournament, which begins in three weeks. A loss to the Cyclones would have been extremely damaging for those hopes.

Rosemont was strong, rolling to 25-15 and 25-14 wins in the first two games of the contest. However, Centenary was able to rally for a 25-21 win in the third game and a 25-14 win in the fourth to set up the deciding contest.

There, the Ravens broke free for an 8-2 run early to create a cushion which pretty much decided the matter.

Alyssa Springer (23 assists, 3 kills, 9 aces), Ke'alohilani Naone Carter (9 kills, 2 aces, 14 digs) and Abigail Brooks (10 kills, 7 aces) helped the lead the way for the Ravens, who are back in action at home on Thursday night against a strong Cedar Crest squad, starting at 7 p.m.
