READING - After venturing outside to play two Division I teams before the Christmas break, Rosemont's men's basketball team returned to Division III play with strength provided by its veterans.
Basil Thompson,
Keith Blassingale and
Jalil Myers all gave the Ravens a huge boost on the offensive side, scoring in double figures as Rosemont downed host Albright by a 73-65 margin Saturday afternoon in the semifinals of the Crowne Plaza Holiday Tournament in Reading.
The Ravens will play Neumann- an old CSAC foe- in the championship game on Sunday at 4.
TURNING POINT:
The strength of the Ravens attack was a solid defensive effort, especially in the second half. Rosemont held the Wolves to just 30.5 percent from the floor overall shooting and 1-of-14 from beyond the 3-point arc. Myers was a key portion behind that, grabbing 18 rebounds - 15 of them on the defensive glass- to go along the way.
FROM THE BOXSCORE:
- Myers 18 rebound game is his second highest total since coming to Rosemont. He grabbed 20 in a loss at Cabrini on Feb. 10, 2018. He also had 15 points.
- Thompson- who had a team high 20 on the afternoon on Saturday- now has four games where he has scored more than 20 points.
- Blassingale had 17 points. It was the second time in the last three games- the exhibition against Hofstra not included- that he had scored 17 points. (He had 17 against Misericordia on Dec. 16.)
- The Ravens had 11 steals and forced 15 turnovers on Saturday.
UP NEXT:
Rosemont will battle Neumann- who beat Susquehanna by a 63-60 margin on Saturday in the other semifinal- in the championship game on Sunday, starting at 4 p.m.
