The early seven-goal hole in the first period proved to be too much for Rosemont's men's lacrosse team to climb completely out of.
The Ravens were able to rally back with a strong second half performance. But it wasn't enough to keep from falling to Centenary by a 10-7 margin Saturday afternoon in the Colonial States Athletic Conference opener at JE Reeves Jr. Field in Hackettstown, NJ.
The Ravens are now 0-7 overall and 0-1 in league play. The Cyclones evened their record at 2-2 overall and 1-0 within the CSAC.
The game was decided in the first 11 minutes and 17 seconds of the contest. That's when Centenary scored seven times, six of them coming off the sticks of Chris Snow (3) and Kyle Gott (3). (Snow had the three assists on Mott's three goals.) The last one came on an unassisted tally by Nolan Gottshaw for a 7-0 Cyclones lead.
Rosemont would craw their way back into it, however. Ben Koselak and
Dylan Hummel scored in the second quarter to cut the margin to 11-2.
Ricardo Vargas and Brandon Crausse would close the margin to 7-4 midway through the third.
Malik Slye would score before the end of the third to make it 8-5.
Gottshall, however, was too much, scoring an unassisted tally a little over three minutes into the third for his third goal od the day that sealed the game.
Vargas and Hummel would add second goals on the afternoon for the Ravens, who return home on Wednesday afternoon against Marywood in the final game before the Easter holiday break.
