Ravens sweep DH from Notre Dame to reach double digits in wins

ROSEMONT, Pa. - When you are in the middle of a season, there are times when progress can feel somewhat lost. The immediacy of the moment can rob someone of perspective and a bigger picture at play.
But as the season draws to a close, the picture can become complete. And little accomplishments can add a whole different light. And that's why Friday's penultimate doubleheader sweep for the Rosemont softball team may be bigger in the grand scheme of the program.
On a soggy day, the Ravens took a doubleheader from Notre Dame (Md.) by scores of 9-1 and 6-2 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference contest  at the Ravens Athletic Complex.
It was the ninth and 10th wins of the season for the Ravens- double the win total from last year and the first time since 2005 that Rosemont had recorded double figures in wins. Rosemont has scored 55 more runs than last season with still two games to play, improved their overall batting average by 26 points (.275 compared to .249) and have lowered their collective team ERA from 8.43 to 5.86.
In Game 1, a four-run fifth inning broke open a close game and ended it when Melissa Lynch smacked a two-run single through the left side of the infield that invoked the eight run run. That made a winner out of Autumn Sharkey, who now has five wins on the season and moved into fifth on the single-season win list for Ravens pitchers.
In the second game, the Ravens started slow but turned things on during a five run fourth inning that was highlighted by a beautiful suicide squeeze bunt that scored Madison Hagerty with the eventual game-winning run.
Rosemont will close out the season on Saturday at noon with its Senior Day game against Immaculata. The Ravens will honor its four seniors- Rachel McClennen, Lena Buccigrossi, Lora Zubrzycki and Autumn Sharkey- and Melissa Lynch, a junior who is on track to graduate next fall during pre-game ceremonies.
