MBB: Ravens rally to beat Arcadia

ROSEMONT - Against the best Division III opponent that they may face the entire season, Rosemont's men's basketball team picked a perfect time to play its most complete game of the year.

Jacob Simonson scored 27 points, Perry Belcher had 14 and Keith Blassingale had 12 as the Ravens closed on a 17-6 run to beat MAC-leading Arcadia by an 89-86 margin Monday night in a non-conference thriller at Alumnae Hall.

It is the second straight win for the Ravens (7-11 overall), who shot 52.7 percent from the field to down the Knights (15-3).

KEY MOMENT: Trailing by six with under four minutes to play, the Ravens were able to take advantage of an intentional foul call against the Knights with two Nick Gemmell free throws, followed by a layup by Simonsonto close back within two. That lit the fuse as the Ravens and Knights would play on the see-saw until a Blassingalejumper with 35 seconds left gave the Ravens an 85-84 lead. After a missed layup by Arcadia at the other end,  Belcher would hit two free throws to extend the margin to 3. Simonsonand Gemmellwould each hit 1 of 2 free throws on trips to the line before a last second shot to tie by the Knights rimmed out.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

- Rosemont has now posted back-to-back wins after snapping a three-game losing streak on Friday night against Clarks Summit.

- Simonson's 27 points came on 10 of 18 shooting and 5 of 10 from beyond the arc. He scored 19 of those 27 in the second half. The 27 points represented a new career high, topping the 22 he had against Neumann on Dec. 22.

- Belcher was 5 for 5 from the floor in the game, grabbing five rebounds.

- Blassingale has scored in double figures in 13 of the Ravens' 18 games this season.

- The Ravens had a 24-17 advantage in points off turnovers.

UP NEXT:  It is a quick turnaround for the Ravens before their final non-conference game of the season- a Wednesday night trip to take on Immaculata, the former CSAC squad now in the Atlantic East Conference. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. Rosemont will then begin the home stretch of the conference schedule at home on Saturday when they face Keystone at Alumnae Hall, starting at 3 p.m.
