ROSEMONT- When the final game of January comes around, it is a call to arms for the stretch ride.
For the Rosemont men's basketball team, it is a call to make that final surge to get into the Colonial States Athletic Conference tournament.
And on Saturday, the Ravens looked up to the challenge. Rosemont used a hot shooting first half and rolled to an 88-56 win over Keystone College before a spirited crowd on "Coaches Vs. Cancer Day" at Alumnae Hall.
With the win, Rosemont (8-12, 3-4 CSAC) moved a half game ahead of Bryn Athyn for the final playoff spot with five games left to play in the regular season, which will end on Feb. 16 with a game in Lower Moreland against the Lions.Â
KEY MOMENT: The first ten minutes were a shooting clinic for the Ravens, who jumped out to a 38-14 lead and shot 9 of 10 from beyond the 3-point line to effectively end the game before it ever got started.Â
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
-
Jacob Simonson had a team high 14 points, connecting on 4 of 7 from beyond the 3-point line.
-
Marlon Sharpton had a season-high 13 points on 5 of 6 shooting from the floor.
- Alex Epps Ortiz had 12 points to be the third Raven in double figures.
- Rosemont had seven players score eight points or more. It is the most balanced scoring output they've had all season.
- The Ravens had a 27-10 advantage in points off of turnovers- a large reason they were able to get out to a huge lead. They also held the Giants to just 2 of 20 from beyond the 3-point arc.
UP NEXT: The Ravens are off until next Saturday when they will face Wilson College - currently sitting in second place in the CSAC standings- at Alumnae Hall. Tip off is set for 3 p.m.
