Clarks Summit, PA- The men's soccer team took on Clarks Summit University on Tuesday afternoon and won 2-1 in double overtime, securing their spot in the CSAC playoffs.Â
The environment of the game was tense, as a playoff spot was on the line for both teams. Rosemont played with great energy in the first half and out shot Clarks Summit 9-6 in the first half. It was a defensive battle in the first half, as neither team was able to execute their shots. At the 43:29 mark in the first half, Clarks Summit scored the first goal of the game to take a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
The Ravens started the second half with intensity. Sophomore forward,
Josh Mason scored a goal that was assisted by
Ameer Payton at the 54:17 mark to tie the game 1-1. Both teams had chances to score late in the second half but were not able to do so. Senior,
Nick Tortorella had a great opportunity to break the tie with 1:30 left in the game but kicked it slightly above the goal post.
The game went into overtime with the score tied 1-1. The first overtime was a back and forth battle as neither team was able to score. In the second overtime, senior
Josh Lessig scored a goal with two minutes left in overtime to win the game for Rosemont.
Rosemont out shot Clarks Summit 17-11 for the game. Senior goalie,
Grant Gonzalez finished with three saves for the Ravens.Â
The Ravens finish the regular season with a record of 8-9-1 and an impressive 5-2 record on the road. #4 Rosemont will take on #1 Centenary on Saturday, November 2nd.Â
