Baltimore, MD- The Rosemont women's soccer team earned their spot in the CSAC Semifinals with a win over Notre Dame of Maryland University 3-2 on Monday afternoon. It was a well fought battle for both teams as a spot in the semifinal game was on the line, but the Ravens were ultimately able to prevail.
The Gators from Notre Dame of Maryland were the first to strike four minutes into the game with penalty kick goal to give the Gators the lead 1-0. Not long after, Junior,
Maciana Mazzeo attempted a shot on goal, but could not execute after a save from the Gators goalie, Myla Young. Mazzeo would get another crack at it at the 9:55 mark and was able to tie the game up with her tenth goal of the season. The Gators netted another goal at the 16:10 mark to put the Gators up 2-1 to end the first half.
The Ravens came into the second half aggressive with two shots on goal by Mazzeo within the first ten minutes. On the third shot attempt, Mazzeo was able to convert and score her second goal of the night, assisted by
Avery Bramell, to tie the game back up at 2-2. The game started to get chippy as two yellow cards were issued to the Ravens within eight minutes of each other.Just as it seemed as though the game might head into overtime,
Lauren Lightcap came through with a goal, assisted by
Emily Johnston, at the 83:04 mark to secure the win for the Ravens.
The Ravens head to the semifinals for the second year in a row to take on Cedar Crest College on Wednesday, November 6 at 7:00 pm.
