Late rally lifts Ravens to DH split against Penn State-Abington

ROSEMONT, Pa - Taylor Carter's single up the middle capped off a four-run rally in the bottom of the sixth inning, lifting Rosemont to a 7-6 Game 2 win over Penn State Abington on Wednesday evening to earn a split of a doubleheader at the Ravens Athletic Complex.

The Nittany Lions had won the first game of the twinbill by a 14-0 margin in five innings.

Rosemont (2-8) rallied from a 6-2 deficit after 3 1/2 innings, taking advantage of four Penn State Abington errors and some solid baserunning to fight their way back in the game.  The key moment came in the bottom of the sixth when- trailing 6-3- the Ravens clawed away at the lead.

Brittney Strauss would score when Kaileigh Whalen's pop-up to shallow left was misplayed into an error to make it 6-4. Two hitters later, the Ravens would tie the game when an error on a Emily Bingham grounder, allowing Samantha DeFrancisco and Christina Broccolino to score.

Carter's single then trickled up the middle to bring Whalen around with the game-winning run.

Broccolino pitched both ends of the doubleheader, throwing 12 innings in total for the night.

DeFrancisco and Carter both had three hits in the nightcap. The Ravens were held to three hits as a team in Game 1.

The split was the first time that the Ravens had gone 1-1 in a doubleheader since April 29, 2017 when they split a doubleheader with Cairn to wrap up the season. Last season, every Ravens doubleheader finished in a sweep from the team that won the first game.

Rosemont is back in action on Saturday when they play at Wesley College in Delaware. The doubleheader starts at 1 p.m.
