ROSEMONT- Night had already fallen on the Main Line and the rain clouds that threatened to wash out a lot of weekend activities had yet to arrive.
And as the Colonial States Athletic Conference season heads towards its ultimate sunset, Rosemont is still alive. It's playoff hopes are right in front of them, as sunny as could possibly be imagined.
The Ravens set a new single-season record for wins in a season on Thursday, taking both halves of a doubleheader against Notre Dame (Md) by 7-1 and 8-6 margins to keep the heat on Centenary and have a controlling hand within their own postseason destiny.
Rosemont (15-23, 6-6 CSAC) will play the Cyclones on Saturday. They need to sweep Centenary on Saturday, then hope that the Cyclones drop one game of its doubleheader against Keystone- currently in second place ion the CSAC- at home on Sunday in a game postponed from tomorrow to the final day of the season- in order to make a first ever playoff appearance.
It is already, however, a historic season for the Ravens. The 15th win of the season broke the mark of 14 which was set in 2005. This year's campaign marks the third year in school history where the Ravens have won double figures in games. Two of those times have been in the last two years.
Rosemont broke open Game 1 with a five run sixth inning highlighted by Brittany Strauss' two-run triple that made the score 7-1. Strauss,
Analisa Yoder and
Emily Bingman had two hits in the first game of the doubleheader. Then in Game 2, a
Samantha DeFrancisco two-run single highlighted a three run second inning that allowed the Ravens to get some separation early.
Kaileigh Whalen and Bingman had two hits in Game 2.
