Rosemont, PA—The Rosemont Men's Soccer team had an outstanding performance Saturday evening; winning the CSAC Finals 3-0 against Cairn University. The program has been using the tagline "Making History" all season; a motto they made reality on Saturday when they earned their first ever CSAC Championship.
FR
Clayton Crosse scored the game winning goal, and the only goal of the first half, in the 28
th minute with an assist from JR
Alex Arriola. The Ravens outshot the Highlanders 6 to 0 in the first half.
3 minutes into the second half, FR
Clayton Crosse earned himself a brace with the assist from SO
Matthew Pattison, giving Rosemont a 2-0 lead. Crosse is now tied for second with 14 single season goals. To seal the game, SO
Kaiden Fields scored his 20
th goal of the season in the 72
nd minute with the assist from JR
Alex Arriola, giving the Ravens the 3-0 victory.
After the game, SR Co-Captain
Will Boehmer said "I am so happy to have won the conference with this group. I know they will do it many times in the coming years, but to win it this year, my last chance, and having worked so hard after having two back-to-back two-win seasons and a sub .500 season is so meaningful for me. This program has come a long way since I started in 2017 and I am excited to continue making history by winning this upcoming weekend in Massachusetts!" Due to covid, Boehmer, a 3-year captain, missed his Senior season that should have taken place in the fall of 2020, came back as a graduate student to use his last year of eligibility. He has been an integral part of this team's success and an incredible leader for the young players on this team.
Other Co-Captain, JR
Alex Arriola expressed how proud he is of his team, "We made history, first ever Rosemont College Men's Soccer team to win the CSAC. The team earned and deserved this. We couldn't have done it without this coaching staff. I cannot wait to see what the future holds for us. We are in control of our destiny now". Arriola, a 2-year captain, has been a key contributor, controlling the midfield, which he displayed in the Championship match with two assists.
Lastly, I spoke with
Kaiden Fields, who holds the record of 20 single season goals, leads the team with 49pts, and earned CSAC Most Valuable Player, who said "Saturday night was a great win for the program from an even greater team. I could not be prouder of our entire defense and
Todd Berman, who has really been underappreciated this whole season. For a lot of us this was our first year at Rosemont and we wanted to win; not only for ourselves and the program, but for the guys who have been here from when the men's soccer program wasn't performing too well. Clayton played one of his best games all season, and he picked the perfect game to do it. I'm excited to see how this team grows in the future and I believe Rosemont College has earned much deserved respect this past season".
The CSAC Champions have earned a bid into the NCAA Tournament and will head to Babson College in Wellesley, Massachusetts to play Amherst College in the first round on Saturday, November 13
th at 10:30am. If Rosemont wins against Amherst on Saturday, they will play the winner of the Babson vs. Cabrini match in the second round on Sunday, November 14
th at 12:30pm.
