Softball splits with Saint Elizabeth on senior day

Ravens close in on CSAC Playoff Berth

Rosemont, PA- The Rosemont Softball honored seniors Broccolino, Dawson and Skinner on Saturday as the team played host to the Eagles of Saint Elizabeth University. The Ravens took game 1 5-2, with SO Nina Foy earning the win in the circle. The Ravens dropped a tough 2-1 heartbreaker in the night cap, spoiling an excellent pitching performance from SO Dani Sharpe.

Game 1

The Ravens broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the 3rd inning, putting 3 runs on the board. After JR Brittney Strauss walked and helped create an unearned run with her legs, JR Analisa Yoder hit a towering HR to left field, her first of the year.  The Ravens continued the two out rally in the third when starting pitcher SO Nina Foy singled home JR Emily Bingman who walked after the Yoder home run.  The Ravens extended their lead with 2 runs in the bottom of the fourth.  After consecutive singles by SO Gillyan Debrew and JR Erin Gallagher started things off. JR Brittany Strauss and SR Christina Broccolino each drove home a run with infield ground balls.

The Eagles tried to claw their way back into the game as Kathryn Harrigan doubled home 2 runs in the top of the 5th.That was as close as the Eagles would get as Foy, was able to close the door, finishing with 6 strikeouts in the complete game effort. With the victory Foy moves to 4-1 on the year.

Game 2

Dani Sharpe carried a no-hitter into the top of the 7th in the backend of the double header, but still came out on the wrong side of 2-1 decision. SO Gillyan Dewbrew tried to play the role of hero hitting a screaming line drive over the left field wall for her first home run of the year in the bottom of the 6th. The Ravens were unable to hold on in the top of the 7th as the Eagles bats rallied to push two runs across. One on an RBI single from Karyn Shimazu and the winning run on a sacrifice fly from Brittany Demarest. The Ravens rally in the bottom of the 7th fell just short leaving the winning run on base.
