Brittney Strauss, a 2022 graduate who double majored in Sports Governance and Political Science, has been named the CSAC Nominee for the NCAA Woman of the Year award for her outstanding achievements as a Rosemont student and member of the softball team.
The NCAA Woman of the Year program was established in 1991 and honors the academic achievements, athletics excellence, community service, and leadership of graduating female college athletes from all three divisions. To be eligible, a nominee must have competed and earned a varsity letter in an NCAA-sponsored sport and must have earned her undergraduate degree by Summer 2022.
"Out of everything I've ever done or accomplished this achievement is by far the most important to me," said Brittney, who is currently attending Neumann University for her master's degree in Sports Business while working full time as a Recruiter/HR Generalist for Max Finkelstein Inc. "It's truly an honor to be even considered for such a prestigious award. There are no words to describe the feeling of being nominated by both my school and my conference."
"On behalf of Rosemont, I congratulate Brittney on this outstanding honor," said Phil Miller, Director of Athletics. "Her stellar academic and athletic career at Rosemont is impressive, and we are thrilled she has been recognized by our conference as the Woman of the Year nominee."
Brittney aspires to work in athletics and has traveled to Super Bowl LVI as part of the Living Sport International Sports Business Program and worked as a volunteer at the Final Four tournament to gain real-world experience in sports management.
About the Award
NCAA member schools nominated 577 women for the national award. Conference offices then reviewed all nominees from their member schools and selected a finalist. Nationally, conference offices submitted 151 nominees for NCAA Woman of the Year.
This year's conference nominees include 53 student-athletes from Division I, 39 from Division II, and 59 from Division III. Of the 151 nominations from conference offices, 17 sports are represented, with 42 student-athletes competing in multiple sports. The average GPA of this year's nominee pool is 3.8.
Next, conference-level nominations will be forwarded to the NCAA Woman of the Year Selection Committee, which will choose the top 10 honorees in each of the three NCAA divisions. The NCAA will announce the Top 30 honorees on ncaa.org in October.
From those 30 candidates, the selection committee determines the top three finalists in each division. The NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics will select the Woman of the Year from the nine finalists. The 2022 NCAA Woman of the Year will be announced during an award ceremony at the NCAA Convention in January.
