Baseball wins Series vs. Valley Forge, with DH Sweep

The Rosemont Raven (15-13, 7-5) swept the home double-header against Valley Forge 8-3 and 21-3.  "Our starting pitching set the tone for both games" said Head Coach Ross Trachtenberg. "Zachary Nutley and David McKinney both had terrific days on the mound today and put us in a position to win both games."  Nutley went 5 innings in Game 1 and gave up just three runs while striking out 5 batters.  Sophomore Brett Angelillo threw the final two inning of Game 1 in shutout fashion to earn the save.  McKinney also went 5 innings, as the starting pitcher in Game 2, and surrendered just 3 runs as well. Senior captain Michael Denton finished out Game 2 on the mound by throwing two shutout innings of his own.

The Ravens collected 11 hits in Game 1, three each by Jamen Palladino and Derek Shillingsford.  Lead-off hitter Luke Franklin had two hits as well and scored three times.  Defensively, catcher Chris Walton was a standout in the game as he threw out three would-be base stealers and picked one off at first base.

The Ravens offense came alive in the third inning of Game 2 when they plated 7 runs.  Shillingsford had the big hit in this inning, a bases clearing 3 RBI double to put the Ravens ahead for good.  Shillingsford ended Game 2 with 5 hits and 8 RBI.  Catcher Samson Gerner had two hits himself and three RBI on a double and a homerun.  He also threw out a baserunning behind the plate. Trachtenberg said after Game 2: "Shill had a special day at the plate.  He came up in big spots and delivered each time. 8 RBI in a 7-inning game is an incredible accomplishment at any level of baseball."

The Ravens have two non-conference games this week before taking on Cairn University in the next CSAC series starting Friday, April 28th.  On Monday, April 24th the team travels to Lancaster Bible College and on Wednesday, April 26th Marywood University visits Heuser Park.
