Awards Ceremony Article

On Monday, April 27th, Rosemont College Athletics hosted the last sports award ceremony in the history of the school. It was a great event, where all athletes from all sports came to watch and support their teammates and friends, with the possibility of bringing home an award as well.

The event started off by Sister Peg coming up to the podium and delivering a strong prayer, expressing her gratitude for the sheer bravery and courage of the athletes and coaches that were a part of Rosemont Athletics this year. Next, well-known professor and NCAA Faculty Athletic Representative and Senior Woman Administrator, Christine Hagedorn, shared her thoughts on this year, speaking on how difficult it was for this school to even be competitive given the circumstances of the merger. She showed true admiration for the students and gave a heavy amount of appreciation to Athletic Director Ross Trachtenberg for all he has done.

Then came the individual team awards. Each team awarded a Coach's Award and a team Most Valuable Player. The Coach's Award is given to the player who demonstrated toughness, leadership, accountability, and overall reliability, while the Most Valuable Player award is given to the athlete that demonstrated a great deal of excellence in their respective sport.

The first sport up was volleyball. Volleyball was not only the lone fall sport, but also the only female team sport that Rosemont offered this year. Head Coach Erin Schuler and her brother, Assistant Coach Brian Schuler, took the stage to share some words about the season. The essence of the speech had to do with the resilience and pure toughness that the girls competed with this year, and how there was such a deeper story to the season than the numbers told. She recalled multiple occasions where players competed despite being severely hurt. Coach Erin shared how she was incredibly proud of the group of girls she coached this year. The winner of the Coach's Award was Cameryn Roach, and the co-MVP's of the Rosemont Women's Volleyball team were Pearl Smith and Jana Ehnot.

The next sport up was basketball. Representative and Student-Assistant Coach Ryan Bowman came to the podium to share a few words. His speech was short in length, but extremely powerful. He talked about how the team had every reason to quit during the year, but they never backed down. He mentioned how they were not even supposed to have a season, and they ended up being a hair away from making the playoffs. The two award winners for the Rosemont Men's Basketball team were Brandon Moore for the Coach's Award, and Zaki Gomez for Most Valuable Player.

Track and Field was the next sport to take the stage at the ceremony, and Assistant Coach Dr. Yolanda Alovor went up to speak on behalf of Head Coach Cardwell Wooten, who was unable to attend. Coach Alovor spoke extremely highly of her athletes. She stated that at every single race the athletes have improved not only their discipline and technique, but their times as well. The awards were split into male and female for this sport, given there are both male and female athletes on the roster. For the female awards, the Coach's Award was given to Makaila Keith, and the Most Valuable Player was given to Terah Pendleton. For the men, the Coach's Award was given to Brandon Moore, and the Most Valuable Player was given to Seth Langford.

The last sport to present their awards was baseball, and Athletic Director, as well as Head Baseball Coach, Ross Trachtenberg, took the stage to deliver one final speech to his team. He raved on about how proud he is of his group, and the fact that they battled through injury after injury and never gave up. The Coach's Award was given to Tim Shell, while Most Valuable Player was awarded to Chase Masten.

The last awards to be given out were not specific to a sport, but rather to the entire athletic program. The Trainer's Award is given to athletes who not only spent a lot of time in the Athletic Trainer's Room, but also demonstrated positive attitudes, and were extremely unselfish for the betterment of the program. Trainers Robert Hanna and Rosemont legend Jennifer McGady came on stage to present this year's Trainer's Award winners. The two winners were Pearl Smith and Jimmy Rodier.

After the presentation of awards, the ceremony was not quite finished. President Jim Cawley took the stage, and in an emotional manner, showed his true care and dedication to the College. He talked about how difficult it was to even have a season for any sports this year, and how hard he had to fight in order to do so. However, President Cawley showed pure gratification for all the coaches, players, and most importantly, our fierce Athletic Director, Ross Trachtenberg. Without those two going to bat for us (no pun intended), there was little to no chance of any Rosemont sport happening this year. Through their hard work and determination, we were able to have one last soar as Ravens for the 2025-2026 athletic year.
