Selinsgrove, Pa. Curtrena Goff scored a career-high 20 points and Liz Coyne added 19, but the Ravens fell to the Dolphins of the College of Staten Island, 75-70 in the consolation game of the Pepsi Tip-Off Tournament, hosted by Susquehanna University. The Ravens are now 0-3 on the season. The Dolphins moved over the "500" mark with a 2-1 record.
The two teams played a tight game for most of the way, but early on it looked like the Ravens would take control. Trailing 7-6, Rosemont put together a 13-4 run to take a 9-point lead, 19-10 with 11:44 left in the first half. But the Dolphins would respond with a 10-0 run to take back the lead, 20-19 with 6:44 left in the first. Rosemont would once again answer the call, taking a 7-point lead, 32-25 with 3:52 left, but the see-saw then swung in the other direction with Staten Island outscoring the Ravens 11-0 the rest of the half to snag the 36-32 lead at the break.
After extending their lead to 43-37 the Ravens again struck back with another run, outscoring the Dolphins 9-0 to take back the lead at 46-43 with 13:47 left in the game. Still leading by 3 with 11:37 left in the game the teams would stray no further than four points from each other. The Ravens took a 68-64 lead after Leilani Naone-Carter sunk a jumper with 3 minutes left, but the Dolphins would score the next seven points to once again take the lead, 71-68 with a minute left. No field goal attempts were made down the stretch, only free throws, and Staten Island sunk four compared to Rosemont's two to account for the final margin of five points.
Goff's 20 points came from 7-for-11 shooting from the field, including 4-for-8 from outside the arc. Coyne added 11 rebounds to her 19 points for her 2nd double-double of the year. Naone-Carter grabbed 12 boards to lead the Ravens in the paint.
Next up for the Ravens is return home to open their CSAC schedule against Notre Dame of Maryland University on Tuesday, 11/25 at 7:00pm.
