RADNOR, Pa. – The Rowan Professors sprinted out to a big first half lead and held off the Ravens in the second half to claim an 80-71 win this afternoon in the Coaches vs. Cancer event hosted by Cabrini College. The loss was the fourth straight for Rosemont, putting their record at 2-4 while the Profs improved to 4-1.
The two teams were very close to each other over the first ten minutes of play with Rosemont holding their largest lead, 20-17 with 10:24 left in the first. Over the next eight minutes the Profs would outscore the Ravens 24-5 to take a 16-point lead with 2:20 left in the half. They would maintain that lead going into the half with the Ravens trailing 45-29.
Rosemont slowly start to chip away at the Profs' lead to start the second half, opening up with an 18-6 advantage to peg themselves back to within only 3 points of the lead, trailing 50-47 with 14:04 left. Trailing 53-50 with 10 minutes left, Rowan would not crack, putting together a 15-0 run in just over three minutes to put the game out of reach with a 68-50 lead with 6:48 left in the game. The Ravens would make dents in the lead, but could get no closer than eight points of the Profs down the stretch.
The Ravens were outscored 45-29 in the first half, but took the second half 42-35.
Kyle Lafferty had a strong performance, scoring 18 points to lead the Ravens. Other Ravens in double-figures were Khai Roberts and Nadir Stukes, each scoring 10 points. Roberts also led Rosemont in rebounds with seven.
Rowan placed four players in double-figures led by Ike Robinson with 19 points. Mike Simpson (18), Chris Gross (15) and Dan Brogan (11) were the other Profs in double-figures. Robinson also led Rowan with nine boards.
The men will try to get back in the win column when they next take to the hardwood at Immaculata for a CSAC game on Wednesday, 12/3. The game is scheduled to start at 6:30pm.
