Ravens Beat Centenary, Split Pair in Tri-Match

ROSEMONT – The Rosemont volleyball team defeated the visiting Centenary Cyclones for their first conference win this season. In the third match of the tri-match the Ravens were defeated by the Wesley College Wolverines for the second time this year, so the Ravens went 1-1 for the afternoon (1-0 CSAC) to move to 2-12 overall (1-2 CSAC).

Match 1 – Centenary vs. Rosemont

The Ravens were evenly matched against Centenary, particularly in the opening two sets. The Cyclones eked out a 25-23 win to take a 1-0 lead, but the Ravens stormed back in the second set to take an exciting 25-22 verdict to knot the match at 1-1. The Ravens poured it on in the final two sets, winning by scores of 25-12 and 25-13 to claim the team's first conference win of the year.

The win broke an eight-game winning streak that Centenary had held over the Ravens, and was the first conference win for Rosemont since they defeated Notre Dame (MD) on 10/22/2011.

Morgan Rollins led the Ravens with 12 kills in the match while Eve Romanowski claimed 10 kills. Romanowski's serve was tough to handle as she amassed 11 service aces. Lexy Mrongowius had 23 assists. The troika of Aly Pizzo, Nadirah Anderson and Leilani Carter each were credited with nine digs apiece. Carter also was credited with three blocks.

Match 2 – Centenary vs. Wesley

Wesley defeated Centenary in three straight sets for their first of two wins in the tri-match.

Match 3 – Wesley vs. Rosemont

In the second match-up between these teams this season, the Ravens were again swept 0-3 by the Wolverines. The set scores were 25-9, 25-11, 26-24. The third set was particularly interesting as the Ravens mounted a big comeback and looked like they were in position to win, but Wesley got the late points when they needed them to claim the victory.

Leilani Carter and Eve Romanowski had five kills to lead Rosemont. Aly Pizzo's six digs led the Ravens.

The Ravens next play at Marywood on Wednesday, 10/1 in a CSAC match scheduled for a 7:00pm start.
