ROSEMONT, Pa. – The Cairn Highlanders came into Alumnae Hall with a winless record, but played a spirited game against the Rosemont Ravens men's basketball team. The Ravens would eventually pull away in the 2nd half to claim the 67-48 win. With the win the Ravens evened up their overall record for the season at 7-7. The conference win was the program's all-time best streak of five straight, moving them to 5-2 in the CSAC. The four wins in a row ties a program record for most consecutive victories, done twice earlier. The Highlanders fell to 0-12 (0-6 CSAC) with the result.
The Ravens led this game coast-to-coast, but didn't break open the game until the last eight minutes. In the first half the Ravens opened up a 16-5 lead after a jumper from Dyshon Pack with 11:16 to play, but a Highlander 6-0 run would get them back to within 16-11 with 7:41 left in the half. The Ravens once again upped their lead to 28-17 and ended the half with a nine-point lead, 28-19.
Cairn would not go away easily starting the second half, as they whittled Rosemont's lead back to four points, 30-26 two minutes into the half. Some inside play from the Highlanders would put the visitors within two points at 34-32 with 13:29 to play. The Ravens earned some breathing room after a couple of Dom Scafidi free throws and buckets from Clayton Wolfe and Khai Roberts put them back up by eight, 40-32 with 11:22 remaining.
Cairn's Darnell Clowney would narrow the gap to four points but then the Ravens would score the next seven points on a trey from Charles Presley followed by two layups from Khai Roberts that would put the Ravens in front by 11, 47-36 with 7:46 left. The Highlanders would try to scrape back into the game, but the Ravens would snap back into double-digit leads each time that Cairn would try to make a comeback.
Dom Scafidi led the Ravens in scoring with 18 point on 7-for-12 shooting from the field. Marcus Thomas shot 4-for-7 from downtown and scored 13 on the night. Khai Roberts added 11 for Rosemont. The Ravens out-rebounded the tall Highlander team by a 35-21 count and outshot Cairn beyond the arc, shooting 41.2% compared to Cairn's 9.1% from downtown.
Cairn's Reuben Lacy scored 15 and his teammate Omar Askia also hit double-digits, scoring 12 on the night.
Rosemont next takes the short trip to neighboring Cabrini for a CSAC game on Saturday afternoon, 1/17. Game time is set for a 4:00pm tip-off.
