Ravens Bow to Gwynedd Mercy

GWYNEDD VALLEY – The host Gwynedd Mercy Griffins (10-7, 6-2 CSAC) started off today's game against the Rosemont Ravens (7-10, 3-5 CSAC) with a 12-1 advantage and kept the Ravens out of reach for the most part to account for a final score of 88-66. The loss snapped the Raven's four-game winning streak.

After the strong start by the Griffins the Ravens fell behind by as many as 15 points, trailing 31-16 with 4:54 left in the first half, but the Ravens persevered to outscore Gwynedd Mercy 10-1 to get back to within six points, 32-26 with 1:55 remaining in the half. With Rosemont still trailing by six, 34-28, the Griffins put up the last four points of the half, taking a double-digit lead into the locker room, ahead 38-28.

Two free throws from Liz Coyne would open the scoring in the second half but Gwynedd Mercy would counter with three straight three-balls  against one Rosemont bucket to take a commanding 49-34 lead with 17:08 left in the game. The Ravens would continue to fall out of the contest as the Griffins put together a 10-0 run from that point to grab a 25-point lead with 13:02 left. The Ravens would try to launch a comeback, getting back to within 14 points after a Liz Coyne layup with 4:59 left would put Rosemont in arrears by 14 points, 73-59, but the Griffins would put the game away over the remaining time.

Liz Coyne notched her 11th double-double, scoring 22 points with 12 rebounds. Dominique Sellers (12) and Leilani Naone-Carter (10) also hit for double digits in scoring today. Smith also had a good day with 10 caroms off the glass.

The Griffins had four players hit double-digits led by Chandler DiFebbo's 19 points. Olivia Bradford (17), Kelsey Tori (11) and Dee Terry (10) were the others in double-figures for Gwynedd Mercy.

Next up for the Ravens  is a home conference game against Cabrini on Ravens Rally Night. The game is scheduled for a 6:00pm tip on Wednesday, 1/28.
