ROSEMONT – The Rosemont Ravens (7-10, 3-5 CSAC) faced the league's top defense in the Cabrini Cavaliers (16-3, 10-0) tonight. Rosemont would convert one of their first 19 shots to start the game and although they outscored the Cavs in the second half, the first half deficit was too much to make up as Cabrini stayed undefeated in league play with a 68-47 win over Rosemont.
Behind 9-0 to start, a layup by Nymira Nelson would give the Ravens their first score, but the Ravens were held off the scoreboard for the next 10:37 before Liz Coyne's layup made the score 24-4 in favor of Cabrini. The half ended with the Ravens trailing 28-6.
The Ravens righted their ship in the second half but could not get closer than 19 points of the visitors down the stretch.
After the final buzzer the Ravens' high scorer was Dominique Sellers who scored 12 points. Liz Coyne earned her 12th double-double of the season (and her 6th straight) with 10 points and 11 rebounds while Kierra Smith had 10 points with seven boards.
The Cavaliers were led by Amber Keys who shot 9-for-15 from the field (20 points). Teammate Megan Decker scored 11 with 15 rebounds for a double-dobule. Kristina Startare also had a strong night with 11 points and eight caroms.
The Ravens next have a home game before they take to the road for three straight CSAC games. On Saturday, 1/31 the Ravens host Cedar Crest in a CSAC contest. The Rosemont women's basketball alumnae will be on hand for Alumnae Day. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00pm.
