Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Coyne Scores 2,000th Career Point, Leads Ravens to Win on Alumnae Day

ROSEMONT – With fans, family and friends of Liz Coyne in attendance in Alumnae Hall on Women's Basketball Alumnae Day, the Ravens gave them quite a show. Coming into the game, Coyne, the senior captain needed a whopping 38 points to reach the 2,000 point plateau. She scored 19 points in the first half and converted a layup with 6:08 remaining in the game to notch her 38th point of the day and the 2,000th of her career.

Coyne became only the third woman to hit 2,000 points in the history of the CSAC/PAC conference, and only the second to score at least 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds.

The Ravens got back on track tonight against Cedar Crest. The team opened up with a 44-18 lead at the half. With the game seemingly in hand, most in Alumnae Hall were concentrating on the progress that Coyne was making. Cedar Crest was outscored by Rosemont 33-28 in the second stanza to account for the 77-46 Rosemont win. Rosemont improved to 8-11 (4-6 CSAC) while the Falcons fell to 3-14 (2-7 CSAC).

After the first 6 ½ minutes of the game the Ravens ran out to a 20-5 lead and were never threatened after that point. Perhaps it was apropos that the Ravens earned their largest lead of the game, 38 points, after Coyne's historic layup.

The win was a team effort with the team combining for 23 assists, their high of the season. Rosemont out-rebounded Cedar Crest by a 44-26 count.

Individually, in addition to Coyne's performance, Jasmyn Parker scored a career-high 15 points. Brianna Macauley hauled in 10 rebounds. Coyne's double-double was her 13th of the season and her seventh consecutive. Coming into the game Coyne was ranked 15th nationally for double-doubles for NCAA Division III.

Cedar Crest's DeJanet Lantion had a good day, shooting 7-for-9 from the field and scoring 18 points to lead the Falcons. Breonna Lewis added 13 points for the visitors.

Now that Coyne and the Ravens have put this milestone behind them they must refocus on the remainder of their schedule, which continues with three straight games on the road. Their first road challenge comes in Baltimore when Rosemont is hosted by Notre Dame of Maryland University on Wednesday, 2/4. The CSAC game against the Gators is scheduled for a 7:00pm tip.
