ROSEMONT – Coming into tonight's game, Rosemont senior captain Liz Coyne needed 15 points to set the all-time scoring mark in the CSAC/PAC conference. With 1:03 left in today's game, Coyne picked up an offensive rebound and put back the ball to become the all-time leading scorer in the history of the CSAC/PAC conference(s) going back to 1992. She ended the game with a career count of 2,078 points, eclipsing the previously standing mark of 2,077 points scored by Melissa Posse of Cabrini between 1995-1999.
It was not easy for the Ravens (11-12, 7-7 CSAC) to score today as the visiting Centenary Cyclones (8-14, 7-6 CSAC) limited the Ravens to shooting just over 30% from the field as the Cyclones took a meaningful 83-59 decision over the Ravens. The loss stopped Rosemont's four-game winning streak.
A trey from Dominique Sellers and a three-point play from Leillani Naone-Carter would give the Ravens an early 6-4 lead, but Centenary's Rachel Edwards would score from downtown to give the Cyclones a 7-6 lead. The Ravens would not be able to get in front for the remainder of the game. The Cyclones expanded their lead to 16 points at 35-19 with 2 ½ minutes to play in the half and took a comfortable 38-24 lead into the break.
The Ravens came out with intensity to start the second half, outscoring Centenary 13-5 to get to within 40-32, but the Cyclones would put together a 9-0 run to make the score 49-32, and the Ravens would be unable to make a solid dent into the Centenary advantage.
For Liz Coyne, in addition to her 15 points she reeled in 14 rebounds for her 16th double-double of the season. Nymira Nelson shot 8-for-12 from the charity stripe on her way to scoring 12 points, while adding five assists for the afternoon. Leilani Naone-Carter shot 5-for-8 from the field and scored 11 with 8 boards.
Centenary had two players hit in the twenties as Rachel Edwards shot 9-for-16 for 24 points and teammate Mallory George scored 22 with 12 rebounds for a double-double. Mallory also dished 6 assists, while Ally Fugnitti had five assists.
The Ravens next travel to Cairn University on Monday for a CSAC contest. The start time is set for 6:00pm.
