Ravens Lose by a Whisker at Clarks Summit

Rosemont Comes Up Short, 15-13, in 5th Set

How It Happened
 
The Rosemont volleyball team rose early and took the long trip to Clarks Summit to face the host Defenders this morning.

Early on, it looked like the early trip was worth it, as the Ravens opened up by rebounding from a 10-11 deficit in the first set to win the next four points to take a 14-11 lead. The Defenders would stay within reach, but could not break Rosemont's hold on the set, winning 25-20.

Early in the second set, the Ravens opened up a 2-2 tie with another four-point run to take a 6-2 lead, but Clarks Summit would score five of the next six points to tie the set at 7-7. The Defenders broke open the tied 10-10 set by putting together a string of seven straight points, taking a 17-10 lead from which the Ravens would not recover.

The third set opened with Clarks Summit scoring seven of the first eight points. It was an uphill battle for the Ravens from that point. Rosemont would battle back from a 16-11 deficit to get to within 16-14, but another run of six straight from Clarks Summit put the set away.

Trailing two sets to one, the Ravens needed to win the fourth set to have a shot at the match. The team responded by streaking out to an 8-3 lead in the set. The Defenders chipped away at the lead, getting to within 13-12, but the Ravens hung tough to once again pull ahead comfortably, 20-14, and held on to win the set 25-21.

The decisive fifth set between these two closely-matched teams was as one would expect. Close. The start of the set started out bleakly for Rosemont, as the Defenders stormed out to a 5-1 lead. But the team showed no quit, outscoring Clarks Summit 8-2 to claim a 9-7 lead. Ahead 10-8, though, the Defenders put together a timely four-point stretch to retake a two-point lead, 12-10. The Ravens would get to within a point down the stretch, but couldn't get over the top to claim the win in the set, going down 15-13.
