Cabrini Uses Big 2nd Quarter To Put Ravens Into Deep Hole

RADNOR – The Rosemont Ravens Women's basketball team saw their losing streak run to three games as they were downed in the CSAC opener by Cabrini University 88-45. With the loss, the Ravens dropped to 1-3 (0-1 CSAC) while the Cavaliers improved to 2-3 (1-0 CSAC).

Cabrini took the lead 1:32 into the game on a basket by Myonie Williamson making it 2-0. Rosemont then answered on a jumper from Shirle Brown tying it at 2-2. Unfortunately for the Ravens that was the closest they could get in the first quarter as the Cavaliers used an 18-4 run to help them outscore Rosemont over the final 7:50 to take a 22-11 lead at the end of one.

Quarter number two started well again for Cabrini as they started out on a 6-0 run making it 28-11. The Ravens' first points of the quarter came on a pair of free throws from Ayanna Thompson making it 28-13 with 7:29 left. The Cavaliers then used a 17-3 run over the rest of the period to take a 45-16 lead to the locker room.

Cabrini opened the third on a 12-1 run making it 57-17 with 5:43 to go. At the 6:32 mark a three pointer from Kate Skalski gave the Cavaliers their largest lead of the frame at 62-21. Rosemont from that point outscored Cabrini 9-7, but trailed after three, 69-30.

The fourth quarter saw the Cavaliers get the lead to as high as 48 at 87-39 with 2:19 to play. The Ravens would get the final basket of the evening with nine seconds to go on a three pointer from Tahkeema Evans to close out the scoring at 88-45.

Ayanna Thompson and Shirle Brown each finished with double figures. With Thompson scoring 15 points and Brown chipping in with 10.

Cabrini showed the depth of their roster outscoring Rosemont 39-7 off the bench. The Ravens also committed 31 turnovers which led to 36 Cavaliers points. Cabrini turned the ball over 22 times, but they only led to 13 Rosemont points.

Rosemont will start the home portion of their conference schedule when the Keystone College Giants make the trip to Alumnae Hall on Saturday afternoon.  Tip-off for the women is scheduled for 1pm. The men will tip a little after 3pm. It will also be POW-MIA Day with the dedication of an empty seat between the two games.
