Ravens Win Third Straight with Victory over Pacers

SCRANTON, Pa. (Insalaco Arena) – Looking only at the final score, one could assume that the Ravens (7-7, 5-2 CSAC) cruised to a win at visiting Marywood (1-13, 1-5 CSAC) tonight, defeating the Pacers on the road by 18 points, 86-68. The final score was not the whole story tonight.

The Ravens opened tonight's CSAC game with a bang, taking a 12-0 lead to begin the proceedings, and extended their bulge to 19-4 with over 10 minutes played in the first half. The lead evaporated rather quickly, though, as the host Pacers would outscore Rosemont 16-1 over the next five minutes to creep back to within four points with Rosemont still in front, 24-20 with 4:20 left in the half. A solidifying jumper from CSAC's most recent Player-of-the-Week, Jamier Hughes, would give the Ravens six points of breathing room with 3:49 on the clock.

A trey from Charles Presley would give the Ravens a more comfortable seven-point lead, ahead 29-22 with 2:42 left before the half. Buckets from Marywood's Dexter Shy and Jeremy Ringland would snap the home side back to within three points, though, with just under two minutes left until the break. Clayton Wolfe would come through again for Rosemont, converting a three-point play to put Rosemont back in front by six points with a minute left, and the Ravens would hold their lead going into the locker room, ahead 32-28.

The Pacers continued to hammer at Rosemont's slim lead to begin the second half, narrowing the gap to one lone point after two Marywood free throws made the score 34-33 in favor of Rosemont. At this point, Khai Roberts would become the Ravens' catalyst to put some distance from Marywood, scoring on a trey to put Rosemont up four. A Charles Presley steal and pass to Khai Roberts led to another three-ball just 41 seconds later to up Rosemont's lead to seven points with 17 minutes left.

The Pacers refused to give up, and crawled back to within three points after a Jeremy Ringland layup made the score 42-39. The Ravens would then assemble a 7-0 run on a Jamier Hughes jumper, another downtown hit from Khai Roberts, and a Clayton Wolfe steal/layup put Rosemont in front by 10, 49-39 with just under 14 minutes left.

It appeared that Rosemont's big early lead cost Marywood a lot of energy to mount a big comeback, and it started to show over the last 14 minutes of the game as Rosemont would extend their double-digit lead to 15 points with nine minutes left. The Ravens would see their lead trimmed to nine, but Rosemont would open their lead in the last few minutes to earn their third conference win in a row.

Clayton Wolfe had an outstanding game for the Ravens, earning his 3rd double-double of the season with 18 points and a career-high 12 assists. Two of Wolfe's double-doubles this season were from combined points and assists.

Khai Roberts hit three key triples, shooting 3-for-6 from beyond the arc and 5-for-10 overall, putting 16 points on the board for the Ravens. Kyle Lafferty scored 13 points and led the Ravens with six boards. Jamier Hughes was solid from the field, hitting on 5-of-8 from the field (1-for-1 from downtown). Alex Epps-Ortiz hit on 6-of-9 from the field and scored 12 points to tie his career single-game mark.

For the Pacers, Jeremy Ringland hit on 9-for-13 from the field to lead both teams with 22 points. James Curley added 14 points for the home side.

Overall, the Ravens out-shot the Pacers from the field, 54% to 38%, and 43% to 35% from deep.

The Ravens will next be tested at home on Saturday, when they will face the Griffins of Gwynedd Mercy University in a CSAC contest in Alumnae Hall at 3:00pm, the second game of a Saturday doubleheader, with the women's game slated for a 1:00pm start.
