Ravens Nipped at Game's End by Gwynedd Mercy

ROSEMONT (Alumnae Hall) – Coming into today's game, the Ravens and Gwynedd Mercy were tied for 3rd place in the CSAC with identical 5-2 conference records. In what was a close and exciting game throughout, today's game was decided in the final 30 seconds.

With Rosemont in front  88-85 and with only 24 seconds left in the contest, the visiting Gwynedd Mercy University Griffins outscored the Ravens 5-0 down the stretch to escape Alumnae Hall with a 90-88 win. With the result the Ravens fell to 7-8 overall (5-3 CSAC), while the Griffins moved to 12-3 (6-2 CSAC) for the year.

With the Ravens ahead 88-85 after a Clayton Wolfe jumper and with less than 24 seconds left on the clock, the Ravens made a stop on the first layup attempt by Gwynedd's Cedric Elleby, but fouled Elleby after an offensive rebound and put-back basket with under 12 seconds left. Elleby converted the free throw for a three-point play that tied the game for the 14th time. A controversial block on Charles Presley's layup attempt with five seconds left ended up in the hands of Gwynedd's Rip Engel, who fed Ty Jones for a bucket with 0.7 seconds left on the clock, giving Gwynedd Mercy a 90-88 lead; their first lead since they were ahead 75-73 with 7:59 left in the 2nd half.

The Ravens' final attempt at a score ended when the court-long inbounds pass glanced off the Alumnae Hall ceiling.

Rosemont's largest lead was six points, 22-16 with 11:18 left in the first, while Gwynedd Mercy's largest lead was by only five points, 53-48 with just over a minute to play in the first half.
