Ravens Lose OT Decision at Neumann

ASTON, Pa. (Mirenda Center) – The Rosemont Ravens took the nationally-ranked Neumann University Knights into overtime tonight, and came up just short of a big upset as the home team held on for an 85-83 win in front of a loud crowd of an estimated 923 fans. With the result, the Ravens fell to 7-9 (5-4 CSAC). Neumann moved to 15-1 (9-0 CSAC).

In the first half the Knights ran out to a six-point lead, 15-9, and they held on to the lead for most of the half until a Clayton Wolfe triple at the four-minute mark put the Ravens back in front, 36-34. It was the beginning of an 11-point run for the Ravens, who would work themselves into an eight-point lead, 42-34 with 1:38 left in the half. The Ravens would go into the locker room with a six-point edge, ahead 44-38.

Rosemont would increase its lead In the first 3 ½ minutes of the second frame, outscoring the Knights 7-2 to start the half to open up an 11-point lead, 51-40. Neumann chipped away at the Ravens' lead, and with 10:52 left in the half the Ravens were still in front by six points, 59-53. From that point, though, the Knights kept the Ravens off the board for the next 4:08 on their way to a 12-0 run to grab a 65-59 lead with 6:44 left.

The Ravens dug in and answered with a big run of their own, a 9-0 stretch to re-take the lead by three points, 68-65 with just under three minutes left in the second half. The Ravens would be in front, 71-69 with two minutes left on the clock, but the second straight dunk from Neumann's Carl Wallace ended the scoring in regulation with the teams knotted at 71-71. Neither team scored in the final 1:45 of the half.

Down by two to start the overtime, a trey from Khai Roberts put the Ravens back on top by a point, 74-73 with 4 ½ minutes left in the overtime. A couple of Clayton Wolfe clutch free throws would again tie the game with 3:52 left before Neumann would put together a run to put the Ravens in a six-point hole, trailing 82-76 with two minutes on the clock. The Ravens would battle back to once again tie the score with 14 seconds left in the OT, but two free throws by the Knights would give Neumann the two-point edge with under four seconds to play. A desperation shot by the Ravens from downtown went off target as the Knights escaped with a two-point conference win over the Ravens.

Jamier Hughes notched his 9th double-double of the season, leading the Ravens with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Clayton Wolfe scored 16 points and had six assists to lead the Ravens in that category. Kyle Lafferty (15), Charles Presley (12), and Andrew Michaels (10) all hit double-digits on the scoreboard for Rosemont.

For Neumann, DeShawn Lowman shot 10-for-14 from the field and tallied 26 points. Tyaire Hudson (18), Carl Wallace (13), and Darian Barnes (12) scored in double-figures for the Knights.

In a game that featured five ties and 14 lead changes, the Ravens were out-shot 52.6% to 45.2% from the field, and hit on 18-for-24 (75%) from the charity stripe. The Knights' shooting percentage from the line was only 64.5% (Ravens shot 75%), but they had seven more attempts and converted two more than the Ravens. Neumann was credited with 14 steals compared to eight for the Ravens. Neumann scored 46 points in the paint (30 for the Ravens).

Next up for the Ravens will be a trip on Saturday to La Plume to face the Keystone Giants in a CSAC clash. The game is scheduled for a 1:00pm start.
