Knights Big 4th Quarter Takes Down Ravens

Rosemont Led Through Three Quarters, But Fouls And Lack Of Bench Depth To Much To Overcome On Road

ASTON– The Rosemont Ravens Women's basketball team led the hosting Neumann University Knights after three quarters 46-37, but the Knights outscored the Ravens 32-14 in the final ten minutes to upend Rosemont 69-60. With the loss, the visitors dropped to 2-14 (1-7 CSAC) while the home team improved to 10-6 (5-2 CSAC).

Neumann jumped out to an early 3-0 lead 34 seconds in on a layup and foul shot by AAliya Hayes. Freshman guard Shirle Brown took it upon herself to get the Ravens into the game as she embarked on a personal 6-0 run in a two-minute span. Free throws from Nafisa Saunders brought the Knights back to level at 10-10 with 3:13 left. Rosemont ended the quarter on a 4-2 sprint to lead 14-12 after one.

A 10-1 push by the Ravens to open the second ran the lead to 11 at 24-13. During that time seven of the ten points came from Ke'alohilani Naone-Carter. Neumann closed out of a 9-3 run to head into the locker room down 27-22.

Rosemont started the third with a bang as Leilani Naone-Carter scored ten seconds in which sparked a 9-0 run, that ended on a Jasmyn Parker layup 1:57 into the frame making the score 36-22. Hayes then picked up the Knights' first basket of the half to stop the Ravens' onslaught. Saunders would head back to the charity stripe still having 3:19 left, and stroked a pair to pull Neumann the closest they could get in the quarter at 39-32. Over the next 1:58 the game became the Ke'alohilani Naone-Carter show as she went on a 7-0 solo run giving Rosemont a 46-32 edge. The Knights ended on a 5-0 run to trail 46-37 after three.

For the first 5:03 of the fourth the two teams went back and forth with neither team really asserting themselves. A Shirle Brown foul shot 5:47 into the stanza put the Ravens ahead 60-54. Unfortunately for Rosemont, that was the last basket they would get for the game as Neumann finished the game on a 15-0 gallop, and left the Mirenda Center floor with a 69-60 victory.

Rosemont was led by Ke'alohilani Naone-Carter who posted her fifth double-double of the season scoring 21 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. Shirle Brown was the other Raven in double figures adding 18 to the cause.

The Knights were led by Senior AAliya Hayes finishing with a double-double of her own, scoring a game-high 25 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Shauntel Williams wrapped up the double-digit scorers for Neumann, chipping in 12.

The Ravens' lack of bench scoring was evident as they were outscored 24-4 by players not in the starting lineup. Neumann also was 20-34 (58.8%) from the foul line, while Rosemont went 8-17 (47.1%). The Knights held onto the ball better than the Ravens committing 20 turnovers to Rosemont's 31.

Rosemont will look to get back to winning basketball on Saturday, when they close out their non-conference schedule with a visit from Bryn Mawr College. Tip-off between the Ravens and Owls will be at 1pm inside of Alumnae Hall.
