Ravens Fly Past Owls In Battle Of Montgomery Ave.

Rosemont Rides Big 2nd Half To Grab Win In Final Non-Conference Game

ROSEMONT– The Rosemont Ravens Women's basketball team used a big 4th quarter to overcome the visiting Bryn Mawr College Owls this afternoon at Alumnae Hall. The Ravens outscored the Owls 19-6 over the final ten minutes to nab their 3rd win of the year. With the win, Rosemont improves to 3-14 (1-7 CSAC), and with the loss Bryn Mawr falls to 1-15 (0-12 Centennial).

The Ravens started out the scoring just 20 seconds in on a Shirle Brown layup. For the next two minutes the teams went back and forth with Rosemont never trailing. It wasn't until the 7:24 mark when Elizabeth Chan gave the Owls their first lead of the day at 8-7. Jasmyn Parker knocked down a three-pointer bumping the Rosemont lead up to four 14-10 still having 3:37 to play. A pair of free throws from Leilani Naone-Carter sent the Ravens on an 8-2 run to end the first at 24-16.

Bryn Mawr wasted no time opening the scoring in the second as Halena Martin hit a jumper only 13 seconds in. That started a 7-2 Owls run closing the gap to three 26-23, with 8:09 in the half. Kiley Stevens hit a three, followed by an Ayanna Thompson triple to run the lead to 32-25. The edge would shrink back to three when an Erica Dwyer bomb pulled the Owls to 34-31 with 3:40 to play. Bryn Mawr edged the Ravens 4-3 through the final 2:53 and the half ended with Rosemont up 37-35.

For the first 3:08 of the third the two sides traded baskets with neither team able to grab a huge lead. That all changed at the 7:43 mark when Ke'alohilani Naone-Carter put home a foul shot and sparked a 10-2 Ravens run capped off by a Ke'alohilani Naone-Carter layup. After three periods Rosemont held a 56-46 advantage.

The final quarter saw the Ravens explode as they embarked on a 18-2 run over a 7:32 span to go up 75-48. A couple of shots from the charity stripe and a late jumper accounted for the last points of the day as Rosemont left the home floor victorious, 75-52.

Rosemont was led by Ke'alohilani Naone-Carter who posted her sixth double-double of the season scoring 18 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. Shirle Brown added 18 points for the third game in a row. Point Guard Ayanna Thompson hit double digits for the 10th time this year contributing 12 points to the cause. Freshman Kiley Stevens led the way from beyond the arc going 4-6 for 12 points.

The only Owl in double figures was Halena Martin who finished with a double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds.

The Ravens committed a season-low 10 turnovers, while the Owls had 20. Rosemont also took full advantage of Bryn Mawr being loose with the ball, scoring 21 points off of the Owls turnovers. Rosemont also got up 17 more shots from the floor going 28-79 (35.4%) and Bryn Mawr was 20-62 (32.3%).

Rosemont will look to make it two in a row when they get back to CSAC action and host Cairn University on Wednesday night. Tip-off between the Ravens and Highlanders will be at 6pm inside of Alumnae Hall, with the men to follow at 8pm.
