Ravens Storm Back Late But Unable To Get Past Cairn

Rosemont Outscores Highlanders Big In 4th But Cannot Overcome Rough Start

ROSEMONT– The Rosemont Ravens Women's basketball team used a big 4th quarter to get back into the game, outscoring the visiting Cairn University Highlanders 30-14, but it was not be enough as Rosemont fell 73-70 at Alumnae Hall. With the defeat the Ravens drop to 3-15 (1-8 CSAC), and the Highlanders go to 6-10 (3-6 CSAC).     
Cairn started off the game asserting their dominance early, opening on a 7-0 run. Baskets by Ke'alohilani Naone-Carter and Jasmyn Parker closed the gap to four at 7-3 with 6:00 minutes left. The Highlanders responded in a big way going on a 10-0 push making it 17-3 7:53 into the quarter. A pair of threes from Jasmyn Parker bookended the end of the period, but unfortunately it saw the Ravens down 20-9.   

Nia Reed put in a layup with 8:07 left in the second cutting the lead to 20-11. Kiley Stevens then stuck a triple getting the Ravens the closest they would be in the frame at 22-14. Cairn responded strong with a 6-0 run in little over a minute to make it 28-14. Ayanna Thompson put a stop to it with a basket of her own. The Highlanders came back to wrap up the half on a 10-3 sprint heading to the locker room up 38-20.  

The third period saw the teams go back and forth with neither team putting together a substantial run. The ten-minute segment would see Cairn outscore Rosemont 21-20 to lead 59-40 after three.

4:23 into the fourth the sides traded baskets with the Ravens really never able to get the deficit under 20. With the score at 69-49 Cairn, Rosemont began the comeback with a layup by Ke'alohilani Naone-Carter that sparked a 7-0 run. Aigner Bookard slowed the Ravens onslaught for a moment making it 71-56 Highlanders. For the final 2:01 Rosemont came flying back with a 14-2 gallop. During that streak the Ravens caused nine Cairn turnovers by utilizing a full-court man-to-man press. A three-point attempt from Ayanna Thompson fell short at the buzzer and they just ran out of time, falling in heart-breaking fashion, 73-70.

Rosemont was led by Ke'alohilani Naone-Carter who picked up her seventh double-double of the season posting 26 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Jasmyn Parker hit double digits as well with 15 points, 9 assists and 8 steals. Ayanna Thompson added 10 points, 5 assists and 4 steals in the loss.

Cairn was led by Madelyn Brodish and Victoria Stum each posting a double-double. Brodish scored a team high 17 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Stum contributed 15 points and 11 boards. Payton Emerick was the other Highlander in double figures with 11.

Rosemont stayed alive in the contest by capitalizing from beyond the arc, hitting 8 threes compared to Cairn knocking down 2. The Ravens also had very active hands on the defensive side of the ball causing 19 steals, while the Highlanders got 7.

Rosemont will look for another conference win when they travel to Cedar Crest College on Saturday. Tip-off between the Ravens and the Falcons is set for 1pm.
