Ravens Coast to Win Over Highlanders

ROSEMONT, Pa. (Alumnae Hall) – The Ravens turned around a very early 7-2 deficit to take their first lead of the game with 15:34 left in the first half, and continued their momentum to roll past the visiting Cairn University Highlanders in tonight's CSAC action. The 93-70 win pulled Rosemont back to a "500" record, as they're now 9-9 overall, and the team improved to 7-4 in the CSAC. Cairn fell to 3-14 overall and 1-10 in the conference with the result.

A Cairn triple with 13:17 left in the first half would pull the Highlanders to within three points, with the Ravens in front 13-10. The home side would then pull away from Cairn, sparked by consecutive three-balls from Clayton Wolfe and Khai Roberts to start an 11-point run, putting the Ravens in front by 14 points, 24-10 with 10:45 left in the first. Each time the visitors started to look like they would make inroads into Rosemont's double-digit lead the Ravens would answer with a run of their own to put the Highlanders further behind. Ahead 33-20 with 7:09 on the clock, the Ravens would out-score the Highlanders 20-9 down the stretch to take a 53-29 lead into the break.

The Ravens fended off all attempts at a comeback by Cairn in the second half. Head Coach Bob Hughes gave his starters time to rest while using multiple players off of his bench to keep the Highlanders at bay. Ultimately, the Highlanders did outscore the Ravens 41-40 in the second half, but the game was, for all intents and purposes, already decided in the first period.

Rosemont placed five players in double-figures in scoring. Kyle Lafferty led the Ravens with 16 points on 7-for-10 shooting from the field. Jamier Hughes, Khai Roberts, and Tarrell Willis each scored a dozen. The 12 points was a career-high for Willis. Zach Gober hit on 4-for-5 (3-of-4 from downtown). Andrew Michaels reeled in seven rebounds to lead the Ravens. Clayton Wolfe scored nine to go with his 11 assists and five steals.

The Highlanders were led by Gerroid Doughty, who shot 10-for-16, 4-for-5 from downtown, and 4-for-4 at the line to score a game-high 28 points. Jeremiah Harris hit 6-for-12 from the field and scored 14. He led the Highlanders with 10 rebounds for a double-double.  Zachary Dolton chipped in 10 points.

Rosemont forced 21 Highlander turnovers (Rosemont committed nine turnovers), leading to 30 points off of those turnovers. Cairn scored 11 points off of Rosemont TOs. The Ravens also had an advantage of 12 vs. 4 steals from Cairn, leading to an 18-0 advantage in fast break points. The Ravens' liberal use of their bench was the source of a 46-7 advantage in bench points.

The Ravens hope to make it two home wins in a row when they next play at Alumnae Hall on Saturday, 1/28, in a CSAC battle with the Marywood Pacers. The game is scheduled for a 2:00pm tip-off.
