Naone-Carter Sisters Each Post Double-Double In Loss To Gators

BALTIMORE – The Rosemont Ravens Women's basketball team continued their stretch of three games in five days, with a 79-61 loss suffered at the hands of the University of Notre Dame (Md.) Gators. With the defeat the Ravens drop to 1-11 (0-4 CSAC). The Gators improve to 4-6 and get to .500 in CSAC play at 2-2.

Rosemont started off the game immediately playing from behind as Notre Dame went on a 7-0 run to start the contest. Jasmyn Parker got the Ravens' first basket 1:54 in, making it 7-2. From there the Gators opened things up and spent the next 4:58 on a 13-2 run to make the score 20-4. A Leilani Naone-Carter layup seemed to spark Rosemont as they wrapped the quarter up on a 9-4 run finished off by a Ke'alohilani Naone-Carter 3-pointer. That ended the quarter at 24-11.

Notre Dame opened up the second period strong as well, putting together a 7-1 run over the opening 2:09. With 1:42 left in the half a jumper by Leilani Naone-Carter got the Ravens the closest they would be in the quarter at 42-29. The Gators ended the half on a 5-0 run, taking a 47-29 lead into the locker room.

The Ravens came out of the locker room and opened up the third on a 7-3 run to close the gap to 50-36 with 6:54 on the clock. A 9-0 Gators run opened the lead up to the largest of the game to that point at 23 at 59-36 with 4:43 left. Rosemont outscored Notre Dame over the rest of the quarter 12-9 to head to the fourth down 68-48.

Ayanna Thompson opened the final frame with a pair of threes that pulled the deficit down to 68-54 with nine minutes left. Two Justine Mudiay free throws capped off a 7-0 Gator run making it 75-54. Thompson hit two shots from the charity stripe to start a 7-4 Rosemont push to finish the game. However, it was not enough as the Ravens left the floor falling 79-61.

Rosemont was led by the fourth double-double from Ke'alohilani Naone-Carter who finished the game with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Leilani Naone-Carter posted her second double-double of the season scoring 17 as well and pulling down 15 rebounds. Ayanna Thompson was all over the court as well putting in 12 points, dishing out 3 assists and led the team with 4 steals.

The Gators finished with four players in double figures. Including a double-double from Shelby Cochran ending the game with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Rosemont made the most of second chance opportunities outscoring Notre Dame 21-2 in that area. Again the Ravens' lack of depth on the bench came into play as the Gators held a 19-6 edge off the bench. Shooting from beyond the arc did not benefit the Ravens as they went 8-32 (25%), while Notre Dame went 10-20 (50%).

Rosemont will go in search of that elusive first conference win as they take the long trip to Clarks Summit University. Tip-off on Saturday between the Ravens and Defenders is set for 1pm for the women. With the men scheduled to tip at 3pm.
