Ravens Never Trail And Earn First Conference Win Over Lady Defenders

CLARKS SUMMIT – The Rosemont Ravens Women's basketball team led wire to wire and ended their long losing streak as they defeated Clarks Summit University 81-60 this afternoon. With the win Rosemont improves to 2-11 (1-4 CSAC), while the Lady Defenders drop to 0-11 and 0-5 in CSAC play.

Jasmyn Parker started the scoring for the Ravens just 30 seconds in and that started a 9-0 run finished off by Ke'alohilani Naone-Carter. A foul shot from Torri Erdman got Clarks Summit on the board with 6:28 left making the score 9-1. Kiley Stevens then hit from deep to spark another Rosemont run of 9-0 pushing it to 18-1 with 4:25 to go. Erdman then made two more from the stripe to cut the lead down to 15. Lovette Jenkins ended the scoring for the quarter with a layup with 1:48 to go putting the Ravens up 22-5.

For the first 2:56 of the second the Lady Defenders tried to get back into the game. Again, it was Erdman at the line who wrapped up an 8-4 run closing the gap to 13 at 26-13. That would be the closest that Clarks Summit could get the rest of the half as a basket by Ayanna Thompson started a 16-4 Ravens run culminating in a Stevens buzzer-beating three, which allowed Rosemont to take a 42-17 lead into the locker room.

Leilani Naone-Carter came out of the break on an individual 4-0 run in the span of 28 seconds giving the Ravens their largest lead of the game at 46-17. From that point on the Lady Defenders found some energy and confidence as they outscored Rosemont the rest of the frame 31-13 to get to within 11 at 59-48 through three.

A combined 5-0 run between the two Naone-Carter sisters opened the Ravens lead back up to 16 before Clarks Summit found the scoreboard. Samantha Snow converted an old school three point play making the score 64-51 with 7:36 to go. Rosemont finished the game on a 17-9 sprint to leave Northern Pennsylvania with a much-needed conference win 81-60.

Rosemont was led by Leilani Naone-Carter who played a season high 36 minutes and posted her 3rd double-double on the season with 29 points and 14 rebounds. Double figures were also posted by Ke'alohilani Naone-Carter (13), Kiley Stevens (10) and Ayanna Thompson (10).

The Lady Defenders were led by Torri Erdman. She finished with a team high 25 points and shot an impressive 13 of 14 from the charity stripe. Mollie Comstock chipped in with 14.

The Ravens carried the play in the paint outscoring the Lady Defenders 40-20 in that area. Rosemont's depth was also a story in this game as the bench held a decisive 23-6 edge. The rebounding advantage went the Ravens way as well 47-31, including 23-4 on the offensive end. That led to a 26-3 lead on second chance points.

Rosemont will try to run the win streak to two as they travel to Marywood University in Scranton on Wednesday. Tip-off between the Ravens and Pacers will be at 6pm, with the Men to follow at 8pm.
