RAVENS DEFEAT CLARKS SUMMIT FOR 2nd STRAIGHT CSAC WIN

Roberts Scores Season-High 21 Points to Lead Ravens

CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa. – The Rosemont College men's basketball team took the long trip up the Pennsylvania Turnpike, but the trip was worth it as they claimed their second straight conference win, besting the host Clarks Summit Defenders by a final score of 89-75. With the result the Ravens improved to 6-7 (4-2) while Clarks Summit fell to 1-12 (0-6).

The Ravens never trailed in today's game. Tied 3-3 early, the Ravens outscored the Defenders 13-4 to grab a nine-point lead, 16-7 almost six minutes in. Clarks Summit went on a 7-0 run to get to within a couple of points with 11:28 on the clock, but then Rosemont responded with a nine-point run of their own to open up their first double-digit lead of the day, ahead 25-14 midway through the half. The Ravens continued to put distance between themselves and the Defenders, opening up a 16-point lead, 38-22 with 3:46 left in the first half, but Clarks Summit responded with a seven-point comeback to trim the Ravens' lead back to nine points, 38-29 with 1:43 on the clock. The Ravens would score the last five points of the period to go into the break with a 43-29 advantage.

Rosemont shot 50% from the field, including 50% from deep in the first half, and sank all six free throws in the period. The Ravens had 11 assists, but nine turnovers in the half with nine steals. The Defenders shot only 34% from the field (33% from 3-point land).

The Ravens' positive momentum continued when Alex Epps-Ortiz and Jamier Hughes each scored layups to start the second stanza, boosting Rosemont's advantage to 18 points. The advantage would grow to 21 points after an Andrew Michaels layup with 16:11 left in the contest put Rosemont ahead 54-33. With the Ravens still leading by 21 with 15:34 left, the Defenders tried to mount a comeback. The host team outscored Rosemont 17-6 over the next 4 ½ minutes to reduce the Ravens' lead back down to 10 points, 60-50 with a lot of time to play (11:10). The Ravens steadied from that point, slowly pulling away as the clock continued to wind down. Leading by 10 at the 10:27 mark, Rosemont put some real distance between themselves and the Defenders with a 22-9 spurt to give them a 23-point lead, 84-61 after a Michaels three-ball.

The outside and free throw shooting enabled the Ravens to put the game away in the second half, with Rosemont hitting on 5-of-8 from beyond the arc (63%) compared to 3-of-9 (33%) for Clark's Summit. Rosemont shot 7-for-8 from the charity stripe (88%) vs. 7-for-13 for the Defenders (53.8%) in the half.
