Ravens Rally For Win On Rally Night

Jasmyn Parker’s Career High 23 Points Paces Rosemont To Win Over Gators

ROSEMONT– The Rosemont Ravens Women's basketball team used a big third quarter to beat the visiting Notre Dame of Maryland University Gators tonight at Alumnae Hall on Ravens Rally Night by a of 84-79. The Ravens outscored the visitors 27-11 in the ten minutes following the halftime break. With the win the Rosemont improves to 5-15 (3-8 CSAC), and the traveling Gators dropped to 6-12 (3-8 CSAC).   

After a slow start to the game that saw neither team able to find a bucket for the first minute and a half of the game, Ke'alohilani Naone-Carter hit a three-pointer and a layup in succession to get the Ravens out to a 5-0 lead. Over the next two minutes the teams traded baskets with a Jasmyn Parker triple putting Rosemont up 12-9. That seemed to spark Notre Dame as Dania Taylor laid one in sending the visitors on a 13-2 run in a little more than two minutes to give the Gators a 22-14 edge. The Ravens scored eight of the next ten points to end the quarter down 24-22

Notre Dame began the second on a 5-0 push, upping the lead to seven, 29-22. Back-to-back long distance shots by Jasmyn Parker got Rosemont back to within one, 31-30 with still five minutes to play. The Gators refused to let the Ravens back in front, answering Parker with an 8-0 run of their own. Four straight points by Rosemont closed the gap to 39-34 with three minutes left. A Kiley Stevens three at the buzzer stopped a 6-0 Notre Dame push, to end the half with the Gators on top 45-37.

The Ravens came out of the locker room determined to get back into the game in front of a big crowd. Runs of 6-0, 4-0, 9-0 and 6-0 contributed to Rosemont outpacing the Gators 25-9 for the opening nine minutes of the third. Leilani Naone-Carter and Justine Mudiay would trade layups for their respective sides and the frame ended with the Ravens up 64-56.

For the first four and a half minutes of the fourth neither team could put together a big string of buckets to take control of the game. A Zaria Comer long range shot pulled the Gators to two down at 71-69. Leilani Naone-Carter basket sprung the Ravens on a 7-0 flight, capped off by another Jasmyn Parker three taking the lead to 78-69 with 4:18 to play. Notre Dame went on a 10-2 gallop for a three-minute stretch getting it down to one at 80-79 with a minute to go. Free throws by Ke'alohilani Naone-Carter and Ayanna Thompson put the game out of reach, and the Ravens left the home floor victorious, 84-79.

Rosemont was led by Jasmyn Parker who finished with a career-high 23 points, while dishing out nine assists. Ke'alohilani Naone-Carter finished one rebound shy of her ninth double-double scoring 21 and grabbing nine rebounds. Sister Leilani Naone-Carter also hit double figures with 13.

Notre Dame had three players finish in double-figures. Zaria Comer led with 22. Dania Taylor 17 and Justine Mudiay 16 were the others in double digits.

Rosemont got up 84 shots converting at 34.5%, while Notre Dame had 64 hitting at 53.1%. The Ravens held onto the ball better only committing 14 turnovers to the Gators 33. Each team hauled in 45 rebounds, but Rosemont got 21 on the offensive glass compared to nine for Notre Dame.

Next for Rosemont will be the long road trip to La Plume for a date with Keystone College on Saturday. Tip-off between the Ravens and the Giants is set for 1pm.
