Ravens Wear Down Cyclones for CSAC Win

Jamier Hughes’ 17 Rebounds Sets Another Career Single-Game High

ROSEMONT, Pa. (Alumnae Hall) – The Rosemont men's basketball team proved to be too much over a full 40 minutes for the visiting Centenary University Cyclones this afternoon, defeating the Cyclones by a final score of 92-74. The win upped the Ravens' record to 13-10 overall (11-5 CSAC), tying a program-high 13 wins in a single season and 11 wins in the conference for a season. The Cyclones fell to 11-12 (7-9 CSAC). The Ravens turned around the earlier meeting this season against Centenary at Hackettstown, N.J., when the Cyclones held on to defeat Rosemont 93-91 in overtime. The Ravens are also showing a penchant for home cooking, enjoying an 8-2 record in Alumnae Hall.

The Cyclones started strongly in the game, jumping out to a 7-2 lead, but the Ravens knotted the game at 10-10 and took the lead on an Alex Epps-Ortiz layup with just over four minutes played. A Zachary Duymich trey put the Cyclones back on top 20-17 with 12 minutes left, but Rosemont would respond with an 11-0 run to grab a 28-20 lead, and would not trail the rest of the way. The Cyclones came within close range of getting the lead several times in the first half, but the Ravens had the answers this afternoon. Rosemont took a five-point lead to the locker room, 43-38.

Leading 43-40 early in the 2nd half, Rosemont would put together a string of seven straight points to open up a 50-40 lead with 17 minutes left. The teams played the next 11 minutes with the Ravens ahead by between 7-10 points. Still ahead by seven, 71-64, the Ravens made a big move when Jamier Hughes scored on a put-back and on the next possession, Zach Gober hit on a triple to put the Ravens in front by 12, 76-64 with 5:45 on the clock.

Ahead 80-68 with 3:45 left in the contest, Rosemont would put the game away for good when they would go on a 12-0 run to take a commanding 92-68 lead, ending on a bucket from Khadim Diaw with 1:35 left on the clock.

The Ravens placed four players in double-figures for scoring today, led again by Jamier Hughes. Hughes hit on 9-17 from the field and 3-3 at the line, scoring 23 points. He pulled in 17 boards to claim his career best in that category. Today's effort represented his 12th double-double of the season. The 17 rebounds tied the program record for most rebounds in a single game.

Clayton Wolfe had another strong game for the Ravens, scoring 16 and dishing eight assists. Kyle Lafferty hit on 7-for-12 from the field and scored 15, while teammate Khai Roberts scored 10.

The Cyclones were led by Rashaan Spencer's 21 points. Jake Logue (13) and Zachary Duymich (11) also scored in double-figures for Centenary. Jake Logue and Spencer each led Centenary with seven rebounds.

The Ravens outscored the Cyclones 49-36 to pull away in the 2nd half. Rosemont took advantage of better shooting from the field (33-70, 47.1% vs. 25-60, 41.7%), and out-rebounded the Cyclones by a 44 to 35 count. Centenary turned the ball over 17 times compared to 11 for the Ravens. Those numbers correspond to Rosemont's big advantage in points off of turnovers, 25 to 15.The Ravens also had the advantage in 2nd chance points (17 to 10), fast break points (12 to 0), and bench points (27 to 17).

The Ravens are next scheduled for an away game at Immaculata on Wednesday, 2/15, in the second game of a doubleheader. The men's game is scheduled for an 8pm tip, while the women are scheduled for a 6pm start. The Ravens will complete their regular schedule next Saturday, when they will host the Clarks Summit Defenders in another CSAC doubleheader.
