Rosemont Ends Regular Season With Win Over Clarks Summit

Ravens End Regular Season On 4-Game Win Streak

ROSEMONT, Pa. (Alumnae Hall) – The Rosemont men's basketball team capped off their regular season at home, defeating the visiting Defenders of Clarks Summit University by a score of 79-72 on Senior Day. With the win, the Ravens set program records for total wins in a season (15), with a 15-10 record, and for conference wins in a season (13), with a 13-5 CSAC record. Clarks Summit's ended their season with an overall 1-24 record (0-18 CSAC). The win was Rosemont's fourth straight win, and they are tuning up for the postseason winning eight of their last nine games. The Ravens ended their regular season with a 9-2 record at home.

Prior to the game, the Ravens celebrated their graduating seniors in the Class of 2017 (Itay Levy, Khadim Diaw, Jamier Hughes, Khai Roberts, and Kyle Lafferty).

After the senior festivities, Clarks Summit had every reason to come into Alumnae Hall this afternoon and just run out the string, but they gave the Ravens all that they could handle in today's contest. Early in the game, with Rosemont holding a 5-4 edge, the Defenders built up a 25-14 lead with 9:26 left in the half. Rosemont was able to put together a comeback though, drawing to within a point at 27-26 with 3:53 on the clock. A Khai Roberts layup would knot the score at 30-all with 2 ½ minutes left in the period, and Rosemont would go into the locker room protecting a slim 32-31 lead.

The Defenders were not going to go away in the 2nd half, immediately taking the lead on an Antwan Bradley layup 21 seconds in. The teams played neck-and-neck over the next few minutes with Clarks Summit still ahead 42-39 with 14:19 on the clock before a trey from Clayton Wolfe would tie the score at 42-42 with 14:04 on the clock. It was the start of a 9-0 run that would give Rosemont its largest lead at that point, 48-42 with 12:40 left. The Defenders would again tie the score after a 6-0 run to make it 50-50 with 8:19 on the clock; the sixth tie score of the contest. The Ravens responded and rebuilt their lead back up to six points, 58-52 with just under seven minutes remaining. Still ahead by five points with 4:39 on the clock the Defenders would mount another comeback, and they outscored Rosemont 10-4 over the next 2:11 to once again take the lead away from the home side, 69-68 with 2:28 left.

A jumper from Clayton Wolfe put the Ravens back on top, and they would go on to once again extend their lead, this time fending off Clarks Summit the rest of the way to hold on to the seven-point win.

Jamier Hughes led the charge for Rosemont with 22 points on 8-for-13 shooting from the floor. Andrew Michaels was strong with 13 points, while teammate Clayton Wolfe scored 11.

Clarks Summit was led by John McCloskey's 24 points; 18 of which came from triples. Nick Peter scored 20, including four from downtown. Antwan Bradley (14) and Donald Miller (10) also hit for double-digits for the Defenders. Miller notched a double-double, leading both teams on the day with 13 rebounds.

Clarks Summit used the deep ball to frustrate the Ravens and to stay within reach all game long. The Defenders hit on 10-for-30 from deep (33%), while the Ravens hit only 3-for-22 from beyond the arc (14%). But the Ravens continued to dominate when it came to ball control, turning over the ball 12 times compared to the Defenders' 21. Rosemont was credited with 19 assists vs. 12 for the Defenders, and Rosemont led in blocks, 7-1. The Ravens claimed 50 of their points from inside the paint, compared to Clarks Summit scoring 18 from in close. Rosemont's bench accounted for 37 points, while the Defenders' bench accounted for only four points.

The men now have the task of preparing for the CSAC Postseason Tournament. The Ravens, seeded 4th in the conference, will host #5-seeded Immaculata in Alumnae Hall on Monday, 2/20 at 7:00pm. Tickets will be extremely limited and may not be available at the door. You can always follow the
