Ravens Thrash Immaculata to Win CSAC Quarterfinal

Ravens Set Program Records in Postseason

ROSEMONT, Pa. (Alumnae Hall) – The Rosemont College Ravens men's basketball team demolished the visiting Immaculata University Mighty Macs in the opening round of the CSAC playoffs, 102-78. The win was Rosemont's fifth straight, and ninth in their last 10 games. With the result, the Ravens are now 16-10 (9-2 at home) while the Mighty Macs end their season with an overall record of 12-14. The Ravens set program records for the most points and the largest winning margin both in the postseason and against Immaculata. The Raven's 16th win represents the most wins in one season in program history.

Immaculata's only lead of the game came right out of the chute on a Mike Piekarski layup. The Ravens would then go on a gargantuan offensive and defensive stretch over the next 11 minutes, outscoring the Mighty Macs 27-3 to grab a 22-point lead with 8:39 left in the half, and the rout was on. The Ravens would eventually open up a 30-point lead, 51-21 with under a minute left in the first. Immaculata would prune the deficit by six points, with the Ravens comfortably leading 52-28 at the half.

In the half, the Ravens out-shot the Mighty Macs 53% to 24% overall from the field, and hit on 9-for-18 from deep, while Immaculta's usual weapon of choice, the long ball, was shut down by Rosemont, with the visitors shooting 0-for-5 from downtown. Khai Roberts was on fire in the half, shooting 6-for-8 from the field including a big 5-for-6 from three-point land, leading both teams with 17 points in the first half.

The Ravens continued to keep Immacualta at a distance in the second half, and extended their lead to 39 points, 88-49, with 8:18 remaining. Rosemont's bench got plenty of playing time down the stretch as the Ravens ran out the clock and the game to win by 24 points.

When Head Coach Bob Hughes was asked about the contest, he said that his team "came ready to play. They showed focus, purpose, and executed. When you do those things, shots fall and you can get a big lead. Khai shot well tonight. In the first half he had some great looks, and his teammates were unselfish, as we had 26 assists on 37 field goals. As a coach, that makes me proud." When asked about his opponents in the semifinal round, "We know our opponents, and have battled Neumann twice this year. These games likely come down to a couple of plays here and there. These games are not always about making shots. We'll be ready for whoever we'll play."

Roberts ended the game shooting 8-for-11 overall (6-for-7 from deep) to lead both teams with 22 points. Jamier Hughes nailed his 14th double-double of the season, scoring 20 with 16 rebounds. Clayton Wolfe hit on 6-of-10 from the field on his way to score 14 with six assists, while Mekhi Clemons scored 11 points, also with six assists. Kyle Lafferty rounded out the double-digit scorers for the Ravens, as he tallied 11 on the night.

For the Mighty Macs, Roy Ferrell Jr. led Immaculata with 17 points. Michael Griffin III and Jordan Ambrose each added 10 for the visitors.

The Ravens outshot Immaculata 13-for-30 (43.3%) from beyond the arc compared to Immaculata's 5-for-22 (22.7%). The Ravens out-rebounded the Mighty Macs by a count of 51-36, and doubled up the Mighty Macs in assists, 26 to 13.

The Ravens will face the #1 seeded Neumann University Knights on Wednesday in Aston, Pa. at 8:00pm. You can continue to follow the Ravens at the men's basketball Tournament Central page at rosemont-ravens.com.
