Rosemont's women's soccer team rallied strong during the Colonial States Athletic Conference season to earn a post-season trips for the first time in three years, finishing the league schedule with a 4-4 mark and earning the No. 5 in the CSAC Tournament. The Ravens will travel to Keystone College on Monday night (7 p.m.). for the first playoff contest.
Here are some news and notes you should know before the Ravens and Giants kick off.
THE REGULAR SEASON MATCHUP: The two teams met at Rosemont on Sept. 22 in the second CSAC game of the year for both schools with the Giants prevailing by a 4-2 score. The game was close midway through the second half when
Emily Johnston tied it at 2-2 on an assist from
Avery Bramell. However, the Giants received goals from Amber Smith and Hayden Richner within a 10 minute stretch to salt the game away.
RAVENS RALLY: In the first four games of the season - all non-conference contests- the Ravens were outscored by a 29-0 margin. Since that point, Rosemont has gone 5-7 overall. However, its goal differential has narrowed considerable, with Rosemont allowing 23 goals and scoring 22. Since Oct. 7, they have outscored opponents by a 13-7 margin.
GIANT FILES: Richner and Nisa Cortes share the Giants lead in points with 19 a piece. They are the only two Keystone players with more than two goals, but the Giants have four players with two goals in Faith Shiffer, Amber Shirtz, Jordyn Olsen and Amber Smith.
MACI'S CATALOG: Since Oct. 6, the Ravens'
Maciana Mazzeo has been among the hottest goal scorers in the conference, scoring seven goals and adding an assists in the last six games. Over the past two seasons, Mazzeo has 28 goals and 4 assists. The 28 goals already places her second in the school's all-time goal scoring list behind Lauren Whalen's 36 during her time on the Main Line between 2012-15.
OPEN AND SHUT:
Emma Lindsay's four shutouts rank for third most in school history behind
Jenna Kaiser, who had six in 2013 and five in 2014. Her 112 saves are third most in a single season in Ravens history as well.
WHERE THE ROAD GOES: The winner of this game will move onto Wednesday's CSAC semifinals. Their opponent will be determined by the results of the game between third-seeded Cairn and six-seed Bryn Athyn in Monday's other first round game. The lowest remaining seeded team will travel to top seed Centenary on Wednesday afternoon. The highest remaining seed- either Cairn, Keystone or Rosemont- will head to Cedar Crest in another contest on Sunday.
