The Ravens (2-11, 1-0) came up just short of defeating conference opponent Wilson College (7-1, 1-0) 9-8. Reliable junior David Mckinney started on the bump for Rosemont and tossed a gritty 6 innings allowing 5 runs on 9 hits and tallying 2 strikeouts. Other highlights from the pitching staff came from sophomore Nicholas Skoufalos who threw a scoreless 9th inning, only allowing a hit.
The bats have been hot in the last week, and that was the same story today as the Ravens totaled 12 hits. The offense was led by McKinney totaling 2 hits, including a double, and a walk on 5 trips with 2 RBIs. Junior catcher Chris Walton and sophomore outfielder Chase Masten recorded 2 hits apiece as well. Junior Jamen Palladino also recorded two hits and recorded 3 RBIs with two on a two-out single. Senior Sean Smith went 1 for 3 and recorded an RBI triple in the process. Finally, graduate student Dominic Fernicola also notched a double in his return to action after suffering a broken nose earlier in the season.
"The team really competed well for 9 innings today. David pitched an excellent game again and gave us a chance to win and did his part at the plate too. It was also a lift to the team to have our captain Fern back on the field. I am just proud of this team's collective effort every day, especially on this day of our conference opener," Head Coach Ross Trachtenberg said after the game.
The Ravens look to bounce back on Saturday, March 16th, taking on Wilson for games 2 and 3 of this conference series on the road. Game 1 will be a 7-inning contest and Game 2 will be a 9-inning game. The first pitch for Game 1 will be12:00pm.
