The Ravens (3-12, 1-2) split the day with their conference rivals Wilson (8-2, 2-1). The score was 13-7 in Rosemont's favor in Game 1 and Wilson won Game 2 13-8.
Game 1 was all Ravens from the first pitch. The scoring outburst started in the second inning with the Ravens putting up a 7 spot. Junior Samson Gerner started the hit parade with a double advancing graduate student Dominic Fernicola putting runners on second and third. Sophomore Brandon Peake followed this by reaching on an error scoring Fernicola. Junior Luke Franklin hit an RBI single that scored Gerner. Senior Sean Smith also tallied an RBI single in the second inning. The rest of the Ravens' runs from this inning came from perfect baserunning and some shortcomings from Wilson's defense. Other Ravens sluggers of note were juniors David McKinney, Franklin, and Bobby DiDonato. McKinney went 2 for 5 with a double and an RBI. Franklin went 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs and DiDonato went 2 for 3 and reached base on all but one at bat. Franklin, Fernicola, and Peake all notched a stolen base as well. The offense finished with 11 hits for Game 1 as well.
Junior Zachary Nutley started on the mound for Rosemont and went 3.1 innings, allowing 10 hits and 6 runs to earn the win. Freshman Shane Lennon pitched the closing 3.2 innings to close out the contest and recorded the save in the process. Lennon ended with a stat line of 3.2 innings of 2 hit baseball and only allowed 1 run. Head Coach Ross Trachtenberg said after the game: "This was a great team win. Every conference game is tough, so it was awesome to take game one on the road behind some tough pitching from Zach and Shane and a great performance from our hitters 1 through 9."
Game 2 was hard fought until the final out and was almost a mirror image of Game 1, but unfortunately, it went Wilson's way with a score 13-8.
Playing from behind to start the contest the Ravens offense clawed their way back into the ball game thanks to the heat of the Rosemont offense that totaled 9 hits. Junior Luke Franklin notched another RBI to his total going 1 for 4 with an RBI single. Senior Sean Smith stayed hot and notched a hit and a RBI as well. The biggest contributor in Game 2 goes to junior Samson Gerner who went 1 for 4 with 4 RBIs. That lone hit being a Grand Slam to left field that brought the Ravens to within touching distance of tying the game. Other offensive highlights came from junior Ryan McDonough who entered the game in the 6th inning. He ended his night with a 2 for 2 stat line with 2 hard-hit singles. Sophomore Brandon Peake also notched a double.
Sophomore Tim Shell got the start for Game 2 and pitched 1.2 innings. In relief for Shell, sophomore Nicholas Skoufolas came in and tossed 1.1 innings of scoreless ball allowing
no hits, and recorded a strikeout in the process. Junior Justin Harrison also pitched in relief for the Ravens and recorded 1.1 innings of scoreless ball only surrendering a lone hit. Sophomore Patrick McCallister and freshman Nick Vitale also pitched in relief, and both totaled 1 inning of work allowing a hit a piece and no runs.
The Ravens get some much-needed rest and look to keep this elevated play rolling when they take on Clarks Summit University on Friday, March 22nd in another conference matchup. First pitch 3:00pm at Schautz Stadium.
