The Rosemont Ravens (5-13, 3-3) played host to Clarks Summit in Games 2 and 3 of the United East series and came away with two victories at their home away from home, Devon Prep. The Ravens took the first game of the day 8-1 and the second 13-3. The wins evened the team's conference record to 3 wins and 3 losses after two series.
Starting pitching was stellar in both games. Zach Nutley (3-1) was the starter for Game 1 of the day. He went 5.1 innings and allowed just one run while striking out 3 batters. He was relieved by sophomore Nick Skoufalos who closed out the final two innings of the 6th on 6 pitches and freshman Shane Lennon who threw a scoreless final frame.
The offense in Game 1 was led by junior designated hitter David McKinney who had two doubles and two runs scored. Fellow junior Jamen Palladino had a double as well and two RBI. The Ravens did not strike out in this 7-inning game while collecting 4 walks.
Game 2 of the day was started by sophomore Tim Shell (2-3) who went 6 innings. He gave up three runs and surrendered just 5 hits. Junior Justin Harrison threw a perfect 7th inning to close out the game with the 10-run mercy rule.
The Ravens offense exploded for 19 hits and 13 runs, all of which were recorded as RBI. Senior outfielder Sean Smith led the way with 6 RBI and four hits. Fellow outfielder Dominic Fernicola had two hits and two runs scored. The duo both recorded a triple and played flawless defense robbing several would-be hits. Juniors Luke Franklin and Bobby DiDonato each had three hits while holding down the defense on the left side of the infielder.
"When we get starting pitching like we did from Zach and Tim and we play errorless defense, we are a tough team to beat. It was great to see the team bounce back from the Friday loss to win this series."
The Ravens take the field next when they play host to Eastern University on Tuesday, March 26th at 3:30pm at Heuser Park for a non-conference game.
