The Ravens (7-18, 5-7) took on conference opponent Saint Elizabeth (7-14, 4-5) on Monday, April 8th at home, but the Eagles outmatched their fight.
The Ravens' offense once again did not skip a beat tallying 14 hits collectively with 6 Ravens having a multi-hit game. Juniors Samson Gerner, Chris Walton, and Jamen Palladino led the Ravens offense each notching 2 hits and 2 RBIs a piece. Walton also roped a double into left field that scored a run. Other Raven sluggers of note were sophomore Chase Masten and graduate student Dominic Fernicola. Masten finished the day with 2 hits and 2 RBIs, and Fernicola went 3 for 6 with a double on the day and an RBI. Masten also contributed tremendously on the bases stealing 3 bases in his efforts. Sophomore Brandon Peake also kept his hot bat roasting going 2 for 5 on the day with a double as well.
On the pitching side of things for the Ravens, it was all about damage limitation which kept them in the game. Junior reliever Justin Harrison was able to keep things within reach for the Ravens pitching a strong 3.1 innings of work out of the pen. Harrison gave up just 2 runs (2 earned) on 3 hits with 4 strikeouts. This was followed up by a 13-pitch inning from graduate student Micheal Denton who tossed a stellar inning of relief only allowing 1 hit in his time on the bump.
Head Coach Ross Trachtenberg shared after the game what he told the team: "This was a tough loss, but there is no quit and no panic on this team. We have a lot of great baseball ahead of us still."
Graduate student Dominic Fernicola had this to say after the tough loss: "We take this one off the chin and move on the PSU-Schuylkill doubleheader this weekend."
Unfortunately, the Ravens lost this game, but they did win the series against Saint Elizabeth finishing the season series taking 2 games out of 3 from the Eagles. The Ravens move on and try to bounce back on Sunday, April 14th, as they host Penn State-Schuylkill in a non-conference doubleheader at Heuser Park. The first pitch for Game 1 is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
