Box Score The Ravens (11-24) came out firing on all cylinders against the Giants (25-11) scoring multiple runs in the second and third innings in a United East game at Keystone College on Friday, April 26th. In the top of the second, junior David McKinney got The Flock on the attack with a triple down the left field line setting the Ravens up nicely to get on the board. And the Ravens did just that thanks to graduate student Dominic Fernicola who knocked McKinney in with a ground ball to shortstop. Fernicola would reach on an error on the play to keep the train rolling. Junior Samson Gerner would then rope an RBI double that scored Fernicola. Staying with the trend, sophomore Brandon Peake singled putting runners at the corners. Peake would then steal second, allowing Gerner to score on the throw. Putting the score at 3 to 1 Ravens after 2 innings.
The Ravens got right back to it in the third with junior Jamen Palladino doubling to left putting a runner in scoring position with no outs. McKinney would come up big again with his second hit of the ball game doubling to left to score Palladino. McKinney would finish 2 for 4 on the day with a double, triple, and an RBI. Fernicola would reach base again with a hit putting Samson Gerner back at the plate. He singled to score McKinney putting runners at 2nd and 3rd after a Gerner steal. Freshman Shane Lennon would come up clutch with a 2-run RBI single scoring Fernicola and Gerner. The Flock was up 7 to 1 after three innings.
This is where the Ravens hot bats would simmer unfortunately only totaling one more run for the rest of the contest. The Ravens finished with 11 hits total coming from all over the lineup. Samson Gerner finished 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs. Dominic Fernicola finished his day also going 2 for 4 scoring 3 times. Brandon Peake would be the 3rd Raven to have 2 hits on the day going 2 for 4.
Getting the start on the hill for the Ravens was junior David McKinney who had a workhorse type of outing going 5 innings allowing 7 runs (6 earned) on 9 hits with a strikeout. Sophomore Patrick McCallister was first out of the pen from the Ravens' arms barn going 1 inning allowing 2 hits and he fanned 1. Graduate student Michael Denton also threw in relief for The Flock tossing a scoreless inning of work allowing just a lone hit and K'd up one batter.
Head Coach Ross Trachtenberg said after the game: "It was great to see our offense produce early in the game and I though our pitchers competed really well. I am glad we have the opportunity to bounce back tomorrow to play."
The Flock has the chance to take revenge on Saturday, April 27th as the Giants travel to the nest at Heuser Park for Games 2 and 3 of the conference series. The first pitch for Game 1
on Saturday is 12pm. At the conclusion of Game 2 there will be a ceremony to honor the graduating seniors for their careers at Rosemont.
