The Ravens (0-2) took on the Marywood Pacers (2-0) in two seven inning games at Devon Prep on Saturday, February 22nd.
In game one, the Ravens fell 15-1 to the Pacers.
David McKinney started the season on the mound for the Ravens tossing 2 innings and struck out two Pacers. He was relieved by fellow senior Justin Harrison who went two innings as well. Freshman Collin McCarron also came into the game for the Ravens tossing two innings of 1 run ball. Junior transfer Tyler Monzo had his first appearance as a Raven, closing the game in the 7th inning with a scoreless frame.
In the bottom of the first inning, senior Bobby DiDonato stole second and scored on an overthrow into centerfield. After that, Senior David McKinney walked, and senior Samson Gerner hit a ground rule double causing McKinney to get held at third. The Ravens offense finished the game with 4 hits, two off the bat of McKinney.
The Ravens fell in game two of the double header 8-5.
Senior Zach Nutley got the nod for Rosemont starting game two on the mound. He went four strong innings recording 3 strikeouts. Juniors Nick Skoufalos and Lars Greenlee pitched the 5th inning, and senior Brett Angelillo pitched the final frame of the darkness shortened game.
Game two saw the Ravens get on top early, as senior Luke Franklin led off the bottom of the 1st with a ground rule double to center field putting the Ravens in scoring position. Senior Jamen Palladino was next up for the Ravens and walked. Both Franklin and Palladino stole putting both runners in scoring position. Samson Gerner hit a sacrifice fly putting the Ravens up 1-0 early.
In the top of the second, the Pacers tied the game at 1.
The Ravens took the lead again in the bottom of the 3rd due to a 2 RBI double by Palladino, and a 2 RBI single by Gerner.
This is where the game took a turn as the Pacers started to chip away, tallying 7 runs over the next 3 innings.
The final highlight of the day came in the top of the 6th inning when sophomore third baseman Shane Lennon turned Rosemont's first ever triple play in program history. The batter lined out to third, and Lennon threw it to second as Collin McCarron got the force out and tagged the runner heading to second base.
Despite the low scoring for the Ravens, Luke Franklin tallied 2 hits on the day and walked three times. David McKinney tallied 3 hits and walked once. Samson Gerner also had a multi-hit day totaling two hits and 3 RBI's for the Ravens.
